Save Lamu also has a hardcopy petition going on in Kiswahili. Anyone can pass by our office and sign it. Better yet take copies and help us get signatures.

Sayyid Abdallah from Lamu wrote Swahili poems in Arabic script over 300 years ago. He is one of the earliest known pioneers of classical Swahili poetry. His most renowned work is "Al-Inkishafi", sometimes translated as “The Soul’s Awakening.” -

300 years before Ngugi wa Thiongo or Binyavanga Wainaina became monuments of East African literature, men like Sayyid Abdallah bin Ali bin Nasir were writing very beautiful things in Swahili.

We know it is happening under the curfew watch by police. Chonjo has heard anchors and engines of boats being stolen because owners are not allowed to be out at night even to guard property. Its a disgrace.

Traders in Lamu want the government to allow them to guard their premises at night.

The Lamu government, in conjunction with the Tuko Pamoja Foundation from Netherlands, has launched a Sh10 million project to dig wells.

Wow, this is great news!!

The Lamu government will this year partner with the Ministry of Education to put up a Sh50 million technical college in Kizingitini. The initial building that housed the Technical College of Kizingitini crumbled and had to be closed down for lack of crucial educational infrastructure 15 years ago.
