Today, I attended a multi-sectoral workshop on Self-Reliance in Kakuma, which brought together stakeholders to unlock the potential of refugees and host communities, identify priority investment areas, and strengthen partnerships geared towards scaling up key economic sectors and value chains.

I assured participants of the County Government’s commitment to supporting the implementation of the Shirika Plan, particularly in addressing challenges in water, health and education, while also tapping into the vast potential of the livestock sector.

I also called on the Head of the UNHCR Sub-Office in Kakuma, Nanduri Sateesh, to prioritise partnerships with credible, transparent and accountable community-based organisations that would ensure donor resources are properly utilised, reach intended beneficiaries and are protected from misuse or political interference.

Honoured to join the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya Regional Conference in Kakuma at the invitation of the Church.

The Church has played an important role in promoting peace and strengthening cross-border coexistence among our communities. As a leadership, we will continue collaborating with the Church and other partners in promoting peace, unity and harmonious coexistence.

I also urged Christians to continue praying for our leaders and be ambassadors of peace and hope across the region by extending the Gospel beyond Kenya’s borders.

Earlier today, I joined the National Steering Committee of the Shirika Plan, chaired by PS Dr. Belio Kipsang, to review the Implementation Framework ahead of stakeholder validation and the commencement of implementation.

The discussions focused on strengthening coordination among national and county governments, development partners and other stakeholders, including the proposed inclusion of UNHCR in the Steering Committee. We also reviewed the proposed financing framework to ensure the Plan is adequately supported.

Turkana remains committed to the successful implementation of the Shirika Plan, which provides an opportunity to strengthen self-reliance, improve services, and create sustainable economic opportunities for refugees and host communities.

I joined the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, and other leaders for a high-level consultative meeting on the establishment of 13 new Level 5, 300-bed county referral hospitals, including one in Turkana.

The proposed facility will significantly strengthen specialised healthcare in the county and bring quality medical services closer to our people.

As health is a devolved function, I reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to working closely with the National Government to ensure the project is successfully implemented and responds to the healthcare needs of our growing population.

This is an important step towards strengthening Turkana’s health infrastructure and advancing access to quality healthcare for all.

The County Government is rolling out long-term interventions to address the persistent water shortage in Loturerei and Napetao villages in Kanamkemer Ward.

As part of the Lodwar Municipality development plan, the County Government is exploring the extension of piped water services to the two areas following unsuccessful attempts to drill boreholes due to high salinity levels.

I have asked the area MCA to work closely with officers from the Departments of Water and Climate Change to fast-track the process.

Joined leaders and residents during an empowerment drive for Atoting'as Kaapei Women Group in Loturerei in Kanamkemer Ward.

Expanding access to clean and safe water in Katilu Ward remains a priority of the County Government. Through an investment of KSh 146 million, the County is implementing five strategic water projects in Kangakimak, Kaibachal, Lopur, Kalemngorok, and Nakabosan under the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project, the Drought Resilience Programme in Northern Kenya (DRPNK), and the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme.

Once complete, the projects will provide reliable water services to more than 15,950 households, with some already operational and others nearing completion.

Joined other leaders and residents of Lokapel in Katilu Ward for an empowerment fundraiser organized by the Kimorikinae Women Group that has close to 18 groups. I assured them of my administration’s commitment to enhancing food production.

Personal attacks against constitutional office holders undermine public confidence in democratic institutions. Rigathi Gachagua's allegations against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Erastus Ethekon were reckless, tribal and an attack on the integrity of a constitutional office.

Inclusive economic growth begins by empowering communities with the resources, skills, and opportunities they need to improve their livelihoods.

Today, together with Members of the County Assembly, I joined residents of Lomeyan in Turkwell Ward for an empowerment fundraiser benefiting seven community groups.

Our commitment remains to strengthen grassroots programmes, support self-reliance, and create opportunities that uplift families and transform lives.

Economic empowerment remains one of the most effective ways of improving household incomes. By supporting small businesses and expanding access to productive assets, including transport for enterprise, we are enabling more residents to participate in the local economy.

Today, I led an empowerment drive at Nakechechiok in Kerio Delta Ward, where women and youth groups received support to strengthen their income-generating activities, including motorcycles for selected beneficiaries to support business and mobility.

I encouraged all beneficiaries to join cooperatives and SACCOs, and to use the support prudently to grow their enterprises and build sustainable livelihoods for their families.
