The County Department of Finance and Economic Planning has concluded a three-day capacity-building training for accountants aimed at enhancing financial reporting, strengthening accounting processes, and improving public financial management.

The training, supported by the Kenya Devolution Support Programme (KDSP II), focused on key technical areas including accounting processes, financial reporting frameworks, double-entry bookkeeping and reconciliation practices aimed at improving accuracy, consistency and compliance across county departments.

Efforts to improve road connectivity in Turkwel Ward received a major boost after the County Department of Roads officially handed over the Nataparkakono–Kaloboi Road project site to the contractor for the commencement of works.

The 35-kilometre road project, valued at KSh 4.8 million, is expected to enhance transportation and improve access to the Lomil area, easing the movement of people, goods, and services.

At least 82 agripreneurs, from Turkana are set to participate in the President’s launch of the Agripreneur model program.

They will join 1,608 other Agripenuers from across the Country for the event, which is scheduled to take place during the Annual Madaraka Day celebration in Wajir County.

This year’s theme is “Education, Skills and the Future.”

The International Labour Organization (ILO), in partnership with the Power Learn Project (PLP) and the Turkana County Government, conducted a one-day digital skills training for youth drawn from both host and refugee communities in Turkana.

The training aimed to equip young people with practical digital competencies to enhance employability, entrepreneurship, and participation in the expanding digital economy.

Governor Lomorukai concludes the Turkana East tour with a fundraiser at Nakukulas in support of 16 groups engaged in livestock value chains. Residents say they intend to build livestock saleyard.

Residents of Katilia Ward in Turkana East say they will use funds from Governor Dr. Jeremiah Lomorukai’s empowerment fundraiser to set up new businesses and expand existing ones.

The beneficiaries, drawn from livestock value chain groups and MSMEs, say they are targeting livestock trade as the main driver of income and job creation in the area.

The drive was part of the Governor’s week-long development tour of Turkana East, aimed at improving capital access for cooperatives and traders across the sub-county.

The County Government, through the Department of Mining, conducted successful public engagement forums at Kalomwae and Juluk mining sites in Aroo Subcounty, bringing together local residents, stakeholders, and representatives from Kaliao Construction & Supplies Ltd. to deliberate on proposed mining activities and community participation.

Speaking during the engagements, County Mining Deputy Director Elim Areman emphasized the need for responsible and inclusive mining practices, noting that land belongs to the community and investors must work closely with local residents to ensure mutual benefit.
