Meru National Museum Meru Museum originated in 1974 in an old historic building that was vacated by the District Commissioner. Where Heritage Lives On.....

The building housing the Meru Museum dates back to 1916. In the colonial era it served as an administrative node in the Mount Kenya region.

It's gets it name from the defensive habit of inflating its body with air and releasing it in a loud, continuous hissing sound when threatened. This puffing behavior, which makes the snake appear larger to predators, is characteristic of this widespread African Viper.
