Nominee for the position of CECM - Environment and Disaster Management, Dr. Edwin Omondi Owuor today appeared before Migori County Assembly's committee on Appointments for approval hearing/ vetting.

Dr. Edwin who hails from South Sakwa Ward, Awendo Sub- County explained to the Committee chaired by the Speaker, Hon. Christopher Rusana how under his leadership, he will ensure effecient and timely service delivery of services to the residents of Migori County.

The Speaker while addressing the media said that the Committee will move with speed to do their report which will be tabled before the House for approval or rejection by Hon. Members.

MIGORI COUNTY ASSEMBLY STRENGTHENS CAPACITY THROUGH PRE-RETIREMENT TRAINING

The Migori County Assembly leadership, led by the Hon. Speaker, together with Hon. Members of the County Assembly and members of staff, successfully participated in a four-day Pre-Retirement Workshop held at Victoria Comfort Inn, Kisumu, from 1st to 4th July 2026.

The workshop was designed to equip participants with practical knowledge, strategic insights, and essential life skills to enable a smooth and secure transition into retirement. Key sessions focused on financial management, investment planning, pension management, wealth creation, entrepreneurship, estate planning, health and wellness, mental well-being, and lifestyle management after public service.

Participants were taken through the importance of disciplined financial planning, prudent investment decisions, debt management, savings culture, income diversification, and safeguarding retirement benefits. The training also emphasized healthy living through preventive healthcare, stress management, physical fitness, nutrition, and maintaining emotional and psychological well-being to ensure a fulfilling life after active employment.

Beyond retirement preparedness, the workshop promoted continuous learning, personal growth, and responsible leadership by encouraging participants to make informed decisions that strengthen financial independence, family stability, and community development. The interactive sessions provided an opportunity for Members and staff to share experiences, learn from experts, and develop practical strategies for long-term success.

This initiative demonstrates the Migori County Assembly's unwavering commitment to employee welfare, institutional capacity building, and good governance. By investing in the professional and personal development of its Members and staff, the Assembly continues to foster a motivated, resilient, and future-ready workforce capable of delivering quality services to the people of Migori County.

📢 FY 2026/27 MIGORI COUNTY APPROVED BUDGET

The Migori County Assembly has approved the FY 2026/27 Budget Estimates amounting to KSh 12.42 Billion, setting the foundation for the implementation of programmes and projects geared towards accelerating socio-economic development and improving the quality of life of the people of Migori County.

Budget Highlights

The approved budget provides for an allocation of KSh 9.16 Billion from the Equitable Share to support county operations and enhance service delivery across all sectors.

A further KSh 674.61 Million has been allocated from the National Government to support key sector-specific programmes, while KSh 1.38 Billion from development partners will finance interventions in health, agriculture, climate change, water and sanitation, and urban development.

The County projects to raise KSh 1.20 Billion through Own Source Revenue, a critical component in strengthening local service delivery and enhancing the county's fiscal sustainability.

To ensure efficient and effective public service delivery, KSh 4.48 Billion has been allocated for Personnel Emoluments, while KSh 4.18 Billion has been set aside for Operations and Maintenance across county departments and agencies.

In line with the county's development agenda, KSh 3.77 Billion has been earmarked for development expenditure to facilitate the implementation of transformative projects across all sub-counties.

The budget also prioritizes continued investment in healthcare services, including support for Universal Health Coverage programmes and Community Health Promoters, with the aim of expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare.

Significant resources have been allocated to agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and value chain development programmes to enhance food security, increase productivity, and improve household incomes.

The Assembly has further approved funding for water and sanitation projects to expand access to clean and safe water, as well as climate change mitigation and resilience initiatives under the FLLoCA Programme.

Urban development remains a key priority, with investments planned for Migori, Awendo, Rongo, and Kehancha municipalities to promote sustainable urban growth and improve infrastructure.

Additionally, resources have been allocated towards affordable housing initiatives and road maintenance programmes to enhance connectivity and support economic development.

The approved budget underscores the County Assembly's commitment to robust oversight, prudent management of public resources, transparency, accountability, and the realization of sustainable development for the benefit of all residents of Migori County.

The Commission on Administrative Justice (Office of the Ombudsman), led by the Chairman, Charles Dulo today paid a courtesy call to the County Assembly of Migori and were warmly received by the Speaker; Hon. Christopher Odhiambo Rusana.

The Commission commended the County of Migori for the progress made in promoting administrative justice, transparency, accountability, and the constitutional right to access information.

The discussions focused on improving service delivery in public institutions, strengthening accountability systems, addressing public complaints promptly, and protecting citizens from maladministration, abuse of office, and unfair treatment.
The Office of the Ombudsman continues to play a critical role in ensuring that wananchi receive fair treatment and efficient services from public institutions.

Today’s engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment to building institutions that are transparent, people-centered, and guided by professionalism, integrity, and respect for the rule of law.

As a County Assembly, we remain committed to supporting reforms that enhance good governance and ensure every citizen receives fair, efficient, and accountable services.

Form Four Students class of History and Government from Kanga High School today visited the County Assembly of Migori for an educational tour aimed at helping them understand how county governments operate.

During the visit, the students were taken through the law-making process, the roles of Members of County Assembly (MCAs), and the importance of public participation in governance.

They also had an opportunity to observe the Assembly chambers and interact with Assembly leadership Led by the Majority Leader, Hon. Edward Ooro (South Sakwa Ward), Hon. Brian Osodo of Kachieng Ward who is also an Alumni of Kanga High, Hon. Caleb's Akal (Central Kamagambo Ward) together with Assembly staff encouraged the young ones to take an active interest in leadership and civic responsibility.

The students, accompanied by their teachers led by the HOS, Mr. Oguta Hassan described the tour as informative and inspiring, saying it gave learners a practical understanding of topics studied in History and Government classes.

The students expressed excitement and appreciation for the chance to witness county governance in action.

Officers from the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) today visited the County Assembly of Migori following an invitation by the Assembly Leadership.

The team from CRA, Led by Ag. CEO; CPA Roble Nuno are here on a consultative meeting with the County Assembly Leadership on the matter of Migori County Assembly Budget Ceiling for the Financial year 2026/2027.

CPA Roble assured the Assembly Leadership of the commitment of the Commission to ensure success of Devolution in Kenya adding that After this meeting, a report will be prepared and Submitted to the Senate for further action.

On his part, the County Assembly Speaker Hon. Christopher Rusana applauded the CRA team for their swift and positive response towards the request made by the County Assembly of Migori and reiterated their commitment to working closely with them to propel the Assemblies' agenda of Representation, Legislation and oversight.
