SESD training has successfully resumed in Kilifi County, marking another important step in empowering beneficiaries with practical knowledge, skills, and attitudes for personal and professional growth.

The training has recorded strong participation, with beneficiaries continuing to join and actively take part in the sessions.

Particularly encouraging is the enthusiasm and eagerness demonstrated by beneficiaries as they learn essential soft skills, including mind education, communication, teamwork, self-awareness, confidence building, decision-making, and personal development.

Their active participation and engagement demonstrate a strong commitment to acquiring skills that will enable them to navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and make meaningful contributions to their families and communities.

As the training progresses, beneficiaries continue to demonstrate deeper engagement and experience meaningful transformation. By investing in knowledge, mindset, and soft skills, the SESD training is supporting individual growth while contributing to the development of stronger and more resilient communities across Kilifi County.

The NYOTA Project Management Unit (PMU) has concluded the verification of training venues ahead of the resumption of Socio-Emotional Skills Development (SESD) training in Kilifi County.

The exercise concluded with a visit to Godoma Senior School in Bamba, where the team assessed the venue’s readiness to host NYOTA Project beneficiaries. The verification focused on accessibility, availability of suitable training rooms, adequate furniture, sanitation facilities, security, ventilation and disability-friendly infrastructure.

The PMU is putting the final touches in place to ensure beneficiaries undertake their training in safe, accessible and conducive environments that support effective learning and active participation as from Monday, August 31.

SESD training equips young people with essential workplace and life skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, resilience, decision-making and professionalism. These competencies will prepare beneficiaries for a smooth transition to On-the-Job Experience (OJE), where they will gain practical skills under approved employers and Master Craftsmen.

NYOTA Project officers participated in the Training of Trainers (ToT) and Roster Management Training held at ACK St. Thomas, Kilifi Town, as preparations continue for the rollout of Socio-Emotional Skills Development (SESD) training.

The session equipped the Trainers of Trainers (ToTs) with essential knowledge and practical guidance on the NYOTA Project, beneficiary management, effective delivery of the SESD curriculum, appropriate teaching methodologies, classroom coordination and other key implementation requirements.

The training also emphasised the importance of creating an inclusive, engaging and supportive learning environment that responds to the diverse needs of beneficiaries and promotes meaningful participation throughout the SESD training.

The ToTs will play a critical role in supporting the effective delivery of the SESD curriculum. They will facilitate learning, guide beneficiaries through the training content and support an environment that promotes participation, professionalism, discipline and the development of socio-emotional and workplace-readiness skills.

Following successful completion of the SESD component, the beneficiaries will progress to the On-the-Job Experience (OJE) component, where they will gain practical workplace experience in their selected skills areas. OJE placements will be undertaken with participating employers and Master Craftsmen, providing beneficiaries with opportunities for hands-on learning, mentorship and skills transfer in real work environments.

Through this structured pathway, from classroom-based SESD training to practical workplace experience, the Project is supporting young people to build the confidence, resilience, workplace readiness and practical skills needed to participate productively in Kenya’s labour market and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
