Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Hon. Mutahi Kagwe, opened the Mombasa International Show 2026 today, calling for agriculture to be repositioned as a serious enterprise and a key driver of Kenya's economic transformation — anchored in productivity, innovation, and value addition.

He outlined a clear path to food security: expanding local production to cut import dependence, adopting hardier crop and livestock varieties suited to Kenya's climate, and opening up idle government land to private investment to close persistent deficits in staples such as wheat, rice, palm oil, and cotton.

The Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) joined other stakeholders at the event, reaffirming its role as a strategic partner in securing the maritime domain that underpins sustainable livelihoods, trade, and the Blue Economy along the Coast.

KCGS represented Kenya at the Regional Strategy Development Workshop on Suspicious/Anomalous Maritime Activity in the Western Indian Ocean, held in Mahé, Seychelles (1–3 Sept 2026).
The workshop convened Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles & Tanzania to close the gap between maritime domain awareness (MDA) data and actionable outcomes strengthening how information from monitoring, operations, and judicial actors is fused to support law enforcement and successful prosecutions.
The engagement reinforces KCGS's role in the region's maritime security architecture and our commitment to intelligence-led enforcement in the Western Indian Ocean.

Strengthening National Flood Preparedness

On 30th August, the National Disaster Operations Centre (NDOC), in collaboration with instructors from the Kenya Coast Guard Service and Kenya Red Cross, conducted Flood Emergency Response training at Sagana River for 30 responders drawn from seven flood-prone counties.

The training strengthened national response readiness, inter-agency interoperability and coordinated emergency operations, building a more capable frontline response system to anticipate, respond to and mitigate flood-related risks. The initiative reinforces a whole-of-government approach to disaster risk management, resilience and protection of lives and livelihoods ahead of the anticipated El Niño rains.
