The Department of Youth, Gender, Sports and Social Services has officially kicked off the 2026 Mombasa International Show Promotional Week as preparations intensify ahead of the main event.

The Department through CECM Hon. Jonathan Wepukulu, accompanied by Chief Officer Goshi Ali and chairman mombasa show ground Henry Nyagah led a tour of the showground to assess the progress of preparations and ensure that the venue and various facilities are taking shape ahead of the big day.

The promotional week also featured an exciting cycling race courtesy of our partners Dola Group adding a strong sporting touch to the build up while showcasing the value of partnerships in promoting major events across the county.

The 2026 Mombasa International Show will run from 2nd to 6th September 2026 at the Jomo Kenyatta Showground (Mkomani Showground) in Mombasa hosted by the Agricultural Society of Kenya.

The countdown is on Mombasa is ready to show the world what we have to offer.

The Department of Youth, Gender, Sports and Social Services represented by CECM Hon.Jonathan Wepukhulu and chief officer Goshi Ali joined residents, football enthusiasts and leaders at Umoja Primary Sports Ground in Kipevu Ward for the final of the Mama Leila Super Cup.

The tournament provided a vibrant platform for young people to showcase their football talent, interact and come together during the August holidays, while promoting positive engagement through sport.

The final was graced by Mombasa Speaker Hon. Aharub Khatri, alongside MCAs Bernard Ogutu, Franklin Hosana and Ibrahim Oyu Bomoa, among other leaders and community members.

The finalists received support through jerseys and footballs, while H.E. Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Mombasa Speaker Hon. Aharub Khatri and Area MP Hon. Omar Mwinyi made cash contributions towards the tournament.

Hon. Leila Nyache, MCA Kipevu Ward played a key role in organising the tournament and bringing together young people from the area through sport creating a space for talent, interaction and community connection.

The Department continues to champion grassroots sports as a pathway to talent development, youth engagement and community empowerment.

Faith and unity took centre stage at Jesus Worship Centre in Chaani during the Destiny Conference, where I accompanied H.E. Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir

The conference brought together an inspiring gathering of bishops and church leaders from seven countries, hosted by Rev. John Kuti, creating a powerful platform for fellowship, reflection and the exchange of ideas on strengthening communities and inspiring positive change.

Such gatherings remind us of the importance of working together across different spheres of society. When faith leaders, community leaders and government come together with a common purpose, we create communities built on hope, unity, compassion and shared responsibility.

I commend Rev. John Kuti and the entire Jesus Worship Centre fraternity for bringing together this distinguished group of leaders and creating a space for meaningful engagement and spiritual nourishment.

The CECM for youth,gender, sports and social services Hon.Jonathan Wepukhulu engaged with young people during the Mental Well-Being and Art of Living Programme, courtesy of the International Association for Human Values.

The engagement provided an opportunity to encourage the youth to prioritise their mental and emotional well being,build resilience and develop positive habits that can help them navigate life’s challenges.

The youth were also encouraged to take advantage of opportunities that enhance their skills, expand their knowledge and empower them to build brighter and more meaningful futures.

We remain committed to supporting programmes that promote the holistic well-being, growth and empowerment of young people across Mombasa County.

Engaging directly with young people remains key to building a peaceful, informed and empowered community. The CECM of Youth, Gender, Sports and Social Services Hon. Jonathan Wepukhulu visited the youth of Mikindani and members of Alpha and Omega CBO Kenya at their Youth Hub for a meaningful discussion on election preparedness, civic responsibility and peace during the upcoming political period.

The session provided an opportunity to sensitise the youth on the importance of peaceful participation, tolerance and responsible decision making. The youth were encouraged to reject violence, hate speech, political incitement and misinformation and instead become champions of peace and unity within their communities.

The CECM also encouraged the young people to position themselves to benefit from the various Government development programmes and funding opportunities including Stawisha and the Revolving Fund. These initiatives provide opportunities for youth to strengthen their enterprises, create livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to the growth of their communities.

The Department continues to prioritise meaningful engagement with young people creating platforms where they can access information, express their concerns and connect with opportunities that support their social and economic empowerment.

Mombasa came alive with energy, determination and a powerful message of hope during the Mombasa Mega Marathon 2026, held under the theme “Stride for a Drug-Free Generation.”

The marathon brought together runners, families, young people, community members and leaders in a united call for healthier lifestyles and a future free from drug abuse. Every stride was a reminder that sport is not only about competition it is a powerful tool for promoting wellness, talent and positive choices among our youth.

The race was officially flagged off by H.E. Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, alongside CECM for Youth, Gender, Sports & Social Services, Hon. Jonathan Wepukhulu, and other leaders who joined participants in championing this important cause.

From the starting line to every kilometre covered, the message was clear: we must continue creating spaces where our young people can choose sport, build their talents, stay active and pursue positive paths in life.

One race. One message. One Mombasa united for a drug-free generation. 🏃🏾‍♂️🥇
