JOINT STATEMENT BY YOUTH FOR KENYA AND YOUNG POWER ALLIANCE KENYA ON YOUTH EXCLUSION IN RECENT POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS
Date: 6th May 2025
In recent political activities across the nation, we have witnessed a growing trend where young people are systematically sidelined from key decision-making positions, only to be called upon when numbers are needed for rallies or, worse, to serve as paid agents of disruption. This blatant disregard for youth inclusion in critical governance and policy discussions undermines the very essence of progress and sustainable leadership that Kenya desperately needs.
As Youth For Kenya and Young Power Alliance Kenya, we took a step back to observe, hoping that the new political formations would prioritize the voices of young people in leadership. Unfortunately, what we are witnessing is not inclusion but exclusion—young people being seen as tools for political mileage rather than partners for national development.
This is a direct call to action for the youth of Kenya: It is time to take our destiny into our own hands. We must build strong, unified formations that secure our place at decision-making tables. Our involvement should not be limited to the sidelines; we should be signatories in political agreements and partners in the development of working memorandums with like-minded political formations that genuinely value youth leadership and empowerment.
We urge every young Kenyan to join us as we embark on this transformative journey. Let us come together for a greater cause—to create a political wave driven by the energy, innovation, and ambition of our generation. Our time is now.
Signed,
Youth For Kenya Leadership
