The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Practitioners Level 2 training was officially opened at The Eldoret National Polytechnic, graced by the Director for RPL, Mr. Stanley Maindi, and Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech.
The event brought together participants from 14 institutions to strengthen practitioners’ capacity and enhance the implementation of RPL nationwide.

The Director highlighted RPL as a government priority aligned with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and challenged institutions to champion RPL and meet set certification targets.
Dr. Koech emphasized RPL as a key pillar in TVET, promoting access, career growth, and certification, while encouraging support for the “TVET Mashinani” initiative to expand RPL outreach across the country.

The RPLP Level II Practitioners Training was officially closed today by the Director TVET, Mr. David Nganga, at the Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI).

The training brought together 13 institutions from the North Rift region and 78 participants committed to advancing Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) implementation.

The Director reaffirmed the State Department for TVET’s commitment to implementing the recommendations of the Presidential Working Party.

Also present were the Chair of the Board, Prof. Some, and the Principal, Madam Loise Kutoh.

It was an honour to be graced by the Principal, Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI), Madam Loise Kutoh, during the RPL Practitioners (RPLP) Training.

This week marks the second phase of the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Level II Practitioners Online Training for participants from Bungoma National Polytechnic. The session focuses on the capstone project following an intensive 40-hour physical training.

The training was graced by the Director, RPL, Mr. Stanley Maindi, who emphasized the critical role practitioners play in driving institutional implementation of RPL. The State Department for TVET remains committed to recognizing both formal and informal skills through RPL, in line with the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Agenda.

The RPL Practitioner Level 2 Training was officially launched at Siala Technical Training Institute, bringing together over 100 participants from TVET institutions across the Lake Region. The training aims to strengthen trainers’ capacity to assess prior learning in line with national and international standards, reinforcing RPL as a key pillar of competency-based education.

Addressing participants, the Director of the RPL Delivery Unit, Mr. Stanley Maindi, emphasized the importance of integrating RPL into academic programs and cascading its implementation to departmental levels. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to affordable and accessible RPL assessment, encouraged innovative approaches such as onsite assessments, and urged institutions to take immediate steps toward implementation.

The RPL Practitioner Level 2 Training at Sot Technical Training Institute concluded its physical sessions today, having brought together a total of 170 participants from TVET institutions within SouthRift region.

As the training transitions to the next phase, participants will undertake a 40-hour assignment scheduled for next week, aimed at reinforcing practical application of RPL in their institutions.
The Lead Facilitator, Ms. Nkarichia, highlighted the government’s commitment to RPL under the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BeTA), noting its role in recognizing previously unacknowledged skills and restoring dignity to skilled individuals.

Participants expressed optimism and readiness to implement RPL, signaling a positive outlook for its impact across the TVET sector.

A Huge Milestone for Mathenge TTI!

The PS TVET, Dr. Esther Muoria, was represented by the Director RPL, Mr. Stanley Maindi, during the inaugural RPL Graduation Ceremony at Mathenge Technical Training Institute.

The Director reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to inclusive and flexible skills development methods such as RPL, adoption of micro-credentials, modularised TVET programmes, and onsite assessment.
In his remarks, he highlighted key national efforts to scale up RPL implementation, including the establishment of the RPL Delivery Unit, expansion of RPL assessment centres,
Lowering of the cost of RPL,upskilling of all TVET trainers to asses prior learning and targeted RPL initiatives for artisans and forcefully displaced persons and host communities.

Present were the BOG Chair, Prof. Hinga Peterson Kinyua, and the Chief Principal, Mrs. Catherine Gikonyo (HSC) among other government officials.

Director RPL Delivery Unit decries the low RPL uptake by TVET institutions.

The Director of the RPL Delivery Unit, Mr. Stanley Maindi, presented RPL implementation score card during the TVET Principals Quarterly Meeting held at Kiambu NP

He highlighted key milestones including the training of over 2,700 RPL Practitioners , assessment and certification of over 3,500 RPL applicants ,including 1850 under the AfDB and, 1,250 under KBEST projects and over 350 under the Affordable Housing construction sites. Further 6,000 Forcefully Displaced Persons ( FDPs) and host communities from Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps are set for assessment and certification under the Collaboration of the State Department for TVET,UNHCR and KNQA. 8 National Polytechnics including Kabete, Kitale, Kisii, Eldoret, Nyeri, Kisumu, Meru and Kenya Coast have been identified to implement the project.

He decried the low RPL uptake by TVET institutions, which currently stands at 26%, and emphasized the need for stronger awareness, leadership commitment, and proactive outreach by TVET Principals to ensure skilled individuals are supported in gaining formal recognition.

The Principal Secretary TVET, Dr. Esther Muoria, commended the progress and encouraged principals to accelerate RPL uptake by their institutions.
