KENYA HOSTS NEWSPACE TECHNOLOGIES CONFERENCE: PIONEERING KENYA’S SPACE FUTURE

Kenya is hosting the “NewSpace Technologies Conference”, a landmark Germany-Kenya initiative fostering partnerships in shared space interests. This event is aimed at promoting space engineering, unlocking collaboration opportunities, and establishes robust regulatory frameworks for sustainable growth.
The conference was officially opened by Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development Teresia Mbaika-CBS. She cited that the forum aligns with Kenya’s Vision for aviation and aerospace as a cornerstone of Kenya’s commercial space economy. She highlighted rocket launch operations, satellite manufacturing, ground-segment services, and spaceport development, while underscoring the government's commitment to policy reforms, certification models, investments, and governance aligned with global best practices to enable public-private partnerships.
" The state department recognizes the dual - use nature of aerospace technologies and we are committed to developing robust, responsible frameworks that safeguard security while enabling innovation and sustainable growth" , said the PS in her opening address.
Mr. Rene Reinhardt, Head of the German delegation, urged Kenya to capitalize on its equatorial location and innovation reputation to build new industries and lead in space innovation. Kenya Space Agency (KSA) Director General Brig. Hillary Kipkosgei reiterated the ecosystem's timely integration, noting its data-driven potential to create high-level jobs and nurture youth-led startups. The Space Society of Kenya represented at the conference is already championing young learners to seize these opportunities.
The conference sparked vital interactions to drive collaborations, positioning Kenya and Africa at large as key players in the global space sector.
