KENYA HOSTS NEWSPACE TECHNOLOGIES CONFERENCE: PIONEERING KENYA’S SPACE FUTURE

Kenya is hosting the “NewSpace Technologies Conference”, a landmark Germany-Kenya initiative fostering partnerships in shared space interests. This event is aimed at promoting space engineering, unlocking collaboration opportunities, and establishes robust regulatory frameworks for sustainable growth.

The conference was officially opened by Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development Teresia Mbaika-CBS. She cited that the forum aligns with Kenya’s Vision for aviation and aerospace as a cornerstone of Kenya’s commercial space economy. She highlighted rocket launch operations, satellite manufacturing, ground-segment services, and spaceport development, while underscoring the government's commitment to policy reforms, certification models, investments, and governance aligned with global best practices to enable public-private partnerships.

" The state department recognizes the dual - use nature of aerospace technologies and we are committed to developing robust, responsible frameworks that safeguard security while enabling innovation and sustainable growth" , said the PS in her opening address.

Mr. Rene Reinhardt, Head of the German delegation, urged Kenya to capitalize on its equatorial location and innovation reputation to build new industries and lead in space innovation. Kenya Space Agency (KSA) Director General Brig. Hillary Kipkosgei reiterated the ecosystem's timely integration, noting its data-driven potential to create high-level jobs and nurture youth-led startups. The Space Society of Kenya represented at the conference is already championing young learners to seize these opportunities.

The conference sparked vital interactions to drive collaborations, positioning Kenya and Africa at large as key players in the global space sector.

KENYA"'S ROAD TO THE AFRICA AVIATION SUMMIT 2026

Aviation remains one of the most powerful connector in inking people, businesses, ideas, and opportunities across the world.

As a sector, it drives trade, tourism, and plays a critical role in growing Kenya’s MICE industry by making Kenya accessible, competitive, and attractive for global events.

The Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development Teresia Mbaika-CBS hosted Event Organisers of the Africa Aviation Summit, Mark Brown and Alan Peaford to a planning engagement as Kenya prepares to host the Summit in September 2026.
This interaction focused on strengthening partnerships, identifying areas of support, and aligning synergies to deliver a world-class event.

Kenya’s hosting follows the successful bid led by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority - KCAA during the 2025 Summit in July, an important win that reaffirms Kenya's leadership in Africa’s aviation landscape.

Kenya looks forward to welcoming the global and continental sector players and showcasing Kenya as the hub of aviation excellence and connectivity.

The Ministry of Roads and Transport led by the Cabinet Secretary Hon. Davis Chirchir hosted the presentation of the JKIA and Wilson Airport Masterplans. This session provided a valuable platform for high-level stakeholders to engage directly with the proposed expansion plans for Kenya’s aviation infrastructure. This visionary blueprint sets clear objectives to enhance Kenya’s airport infrastructure, making it a modern gateway that matches global standards and traveler expectations.

These masterplans are vital to Kenya’s economic future, impacting transport, trade, tourism and agriculture among other sectors. They set clear timelines and aligned all sector needs to support growth in passenger handling and cargo uplift, ensuring that the country’s aviation capacity meets the rising demand and meets the current global standards.

The strategic upgrades outlined will elevate JKIA to a world-class airport, enhancing its status as a regional hub while improving the traveler experience. By incorporating and upgrading existing infrastructure, these plans will deliver efficient, seamless connectivity that benefits Kenya’s overall economy and strengthens Kenya’s position in global aviation.

Enhanced infrastructure will unlock new opportunities that will drive Kenya's overall economy through modern, expanded aviation facilities.

The State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development (SDAAD) and the World Bank today held a strategic meeting on the strengthening of multimodal transport connectivity and enhancing the resilience of strategic corridors throughout Eastern Africa. The discussions also focused on the provision of technical assistance, through support from the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), for the advancement of Sustainable Aviation Fuels ( SAF) in Kenya.

The meeting was chaired by the Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development Teresia Mbaika-CBS , who reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting these strategic initiatives. The World Bank delegation was led by Binyam Reja. The Director General Kenya Civil Aviation Authority - KCAA Mr. Emile Arao was also in attendance.

This collaboration reflects a strong partnership aimed at developing an integrated transport system and furthering Kenya's leadership in sustainable aviation, including efforts to promote locally produced SAF and infrastructure investments for aviation growth.

This engagement aligns with Kenya’s broader efforts to position itself as a hub for sustainable aviation fuel production and usage in Africa, supported by collaborations with international partners, innovative local SAF initiatives, and a policy environment fostering green aviation development.

The World Bank's technical and financial support underscores the importance of resilience in transport corridors and the expansion of aviation infrastructure as key pillars for regional economic growth and environmental sustainability.

This meeting exemplifies Kenya’s proactive stance on aviation sustainability and regional connectivity, bolstered by government commitment at high levels and collaborative international partnerships.

The world bank team is in the country ahead of the 4th High Level workshop and 4th meeting of National Steering Committee (NSC) on accelerating the development and deployment of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Kenya to be held between 25th and 27th November, 2025 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The Department of Aviation and Aerospace Development joins the family, friends, and Makueni County in mourning the untimely passing of a distinguished environmentalist and dedicated public servant Dr. Sonia Nzilani. She served as the County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Marketing, Culture and Tourism.

We celebrate a life marked by passion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the protection of our environment. Her contribution to County and community development have left a lasting legacy that will continue to benefit generations. She upheld values that strengthened both the county and communities.

KENYA ENGAGES AT THE 2025 DUBAI AIRSHOW TO TAP INTO AVIATION INNOVATION, TECHNOLOGY AND PARTNERSHIPS

Kenya participated in the 2025 Dubai Airshow, one of the world’s largest aerospace and aviation gatherings, featuring over 1,400 exhibitors and 180 aircraft companies from across the globe. The event provided a vital platform for industry leaders, governments, and innovators to exchange ideas and explore advances shaping the future of aviation and aerospace.

Led by the Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development Teresia Mbaika-CBS, the Kenyan delegation held several high-level engagements with key partners including Emirates, Innospace, Textron, and the World Food Programme (Humanitarian Aviation). The discussions focused on exploring partnerships in areas such as sustainable air transport, innovation, humanitarian aviation and the application of advanced technology in air operations among other topics.

Participation in the Expo offered Kenya valuable insights into emerging industry trends, from the integration of smart technology to green aviation solutions, providing direction towards enhancing the country’s position as a key aviation hub in Africa.

The PS in her discussions with Capt Samir Saket, Head of Regional Aviation Safety UAE - World Food Program and founder of the Global Humanitarian Aviation Conference confirmed government support when the conference is hosted in Nairobi, Kenya in October 2026. Aviation remains a key catalyst for MICE and global connections in trade.

PS AVIATION AND AEROSPACE DEVELOPMENT LEADS KEY MEETING TO ENHANCE SAFETY AND OPERATIONS AT WILSON

Today, the Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development Teresia Mbaika-CBS convened a high-level meeting with Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) to deliberate on improving operations at Wilson Airport, one of East Africa’s busiest aviation hubs.

The meeting focused on enhancing safety and regulatory compliance by aligning airport development with the expected international standards . Emphasis was placed on fostering synergy among government agencies and stakeholders to ensure streamlined regulations and approval of development around Wilson Airport that ensures the airport's safety, sustainable growth, and its economic contribution.

This collaborative effort underscores Kenya’s commitment to maintaining Wilson Airport’s vital role in regional connectivity, economic development, and aviation excellence. Present were Mr. Mohammed Gedi who led the Kenya Airports Authority team, senior officials from the state department and experts from the regulator Kenya Civil Aviation Authority - KCAA .

Established in 1929 as Nairobi West Aerodrome by Florence Kerr Wilson, the airport has grown to become essential for domestic flights, tourism, medical evacuations, agriculture, and aviation training. Wilson Airport handles about 120,000 landings and take-offs annually, closing at slightly over 800,000 passengers in 2024, underpinning Kenya’s tourism by connecting travelers to safari destinations like Maasai Mara and Amboseli and lifting cargo within the region. It is a critical economic pillar supporting trade, healthcare, and flight training, thus positioning Kenya as a regional aviation leader.

Managing Director Fly Jambojet Mr. Karanja Ngegwa paid a courtesy call to the PS, Aviation and Aerospace Development Teresia Mbaika-CBS. The meeting centered on discussions on the contribution of low-cost carriers to Kenya’s economy, the airline regulatory environment and compliance with aviation safety and security standards and the opportunities for market access expansion into some of the destinations that are on are on demand.

The PS underscored the need for collaboration on infrastructure development to support low-cost carrier operations, including airport facilities and ground services. She emphasized the need for airlines to be more innovative, embracing technology and improving operational efficiency and passenger experience. She commended Jambo Jet for their consistency and continued responsive expansion of their network that has contributed to growth of trade and tourism.

Mr. Ndegwa thanked government for continued support in enhanced support in the aviation sector policy frameworks that continue to foster healthy competition and growth in the aviation sector.

Jambo Jet, a brand of Kenya Airways, is Kenya's first low-cost airline and operates from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.

PS AVIATION AND AEROSPACE DEVELOPMENT VISITS PLANE CRASH SITE AS INVESTIGATION GETS UNDERWAY

The Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development Teresia Mbaika-CBS visited the site of the Kwale plane crash to receive a briefing from the air accident investigation team on the process that began in earnest yesterday.

On her behalf, of the Ministry of Roads and Transport and the government, the PS conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and appealed for patience as the investigation continues.

“The state department remains committed to adhering to international protocols governing air accident investigations. The operator has been cooperative, and we have a professional team on the ground led by the Director of Air Accident Investigation,” the PS stated.

The PS also appreciated the efforts of security inter- agency teams coordinated by the County commissioner and the Red cross for supporting the investigation team through logistical support and guarding against any contamination of the crash scene to ensure no interference with the on-going investigations.

The full investigation report will be available in 30 days as stipulated by International standards.

The PS was joined by the Deputy County Commissioner Frida Kawira, Kenya Airports Authority General Manager Operations and Security Dr. Simon Peter and Regional Airport Manager (Coast) Mr. Gogo among other officials.

PS TERRY MBAIKA LEADS MAKUENI IN NYOTA VALIDATION EXERCISE

Makueni, 24 October 2025

The Principal Secretary, Teresia Mbaika-CBS today led the community in Makueni in the validation exercise for the Government-led National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) project, a World Bank-supported initiative aimed at unlocking the potential of Kenya’s youth through employment, income generation and a culture of saving under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The events took place at Kee Enterprise Development Centre and Green Park in Wote , Makueni.

Verification checks included physical availability, ID as the unique identifier, ward of residence, education level, employment status, gender distribution and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The projet targets at least 820,000 vulnerable youth (ages 18–29; up to 35 for PWDs) across all 1,450 wards countrywide, eligibility up to Form 4 education level and equal opportunity for male and female youth.

The Principal Secretary emphasized that the validation exercise is a substantive step towards developing a national blueprint for sustained youth investment.

“The NYOTA project is about you, for you, and with you,” the PS said, urging youth to embrace discipline, integrity and hard work, engage with government programmes, and use their voices to influence decisions that shape their future.
