The three year project will contribute towards the implementation of the
National Climate Change Action Plan (2013- 2017) which has the overarching goal of enhancing
low carbon climate resilient development blueprint –Vision 2030. The LECRD Project has six (6) outcomes namely:
Strengthen the national climate change coordination processes;
Contribute toward enhancing access to clean and efficient e

nergy systems;
Support development of a national sustainable greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory system;
Facilitate improved national and county decision making on climate change interventions;
Support capacity building of climate knowledge management system;
Contribute towards minimizing the impacts of extreme climate events for improved and resilient
livelihoods
The project has the overall objective of supporting Kenya’s efforts to pursue long- term,
transformative development and accelerate sustainable climate resilient economic growth, while
slowing the growth of greenhouse gas emissions. It will facilitate the implementation of the National
Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP). The NCCAP has the goal of enhancing Kenya’s low carbon
climate resilient development. The project will support Kenya’s efforts to pursue long-term,
transformative development and accelerate sustainable, climate-resilient economic growth while
slowing the growth of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It will thus help Kenya meet its
international commitments; accesses finance, and integrate climate change considerations into its
long term planning.

FINALLY WE HAVE IT, KENYA CROP AREA YIELD INDEX INSURANCE
Kenya Agriculture Insurance and Risk Management Program (KAIRMP) was yesterday by CS MOENRRDA, Prof. Judy Wakhungu on behalf of CS MALF, Mr. W***y Bett. The Programme for March 2016 has been rolled in 3 counties Embu, Nakuru and Bungoma before expansion to 30 more counties with maize and wheat being the only crops being insured at the moment before other crops is adopted.

• Crop Area Yield Index Insurance (AYII) which uses historical crop yield data together with actual crop yields estimation through crop cutting methods.
• Target: Smallholder crops farmers; starting with maize and wheat
• Insurance delivered through PPP arrangements
