Apparently, there is a story of siblings from different parents who both rose to become Governors of Nakuru County.

Neither was born in Nakuru. And looking at the state of affairs today, one is left asking whether Nakuru had ever truly been their home, or has it merely been a political destination?

The first sibling came, governed, and left behind billions worth of incomplete projects. Projects that were announced with fanfare but abandoned midway. Projects that were supposed to transform lives but today stand as monuments to broken promises and poor prioritisation.

Then came the sister.

And Nakuru got even less attention.

While the Governor has spent considerable time travelling, the people back home have been left grappling with a county government that, according to residents and workers, is struggling on some of the most basic responsibilities.

Our health facilities are under pressure. Health workers have raised concerns over unpaid dues. Street lighting in the better parts of our towns has deteriorated. Businesses are struggling and young people are watching opportunities disappear.

This is not the Nakuru we were promised and of course, not the Nakuru we want.

And now, with barely a year to the next election, the political machinery is warming up again.

The same roads that were neglected are suddenly receiving attention. The same communities that waited for years are suddenly being visited. The same voters who were ignored are suddenly being courted with handouts.

But Nakurians must ask themselves one question:

Where was this urgency when there was still time to govern?

You cannot spend an entire term explaining why things cannot be done, then appear at the eleventh hour asking the people for another mandate.

Nakuru is not a political experiment. Nakuru is not a stepping stone. Nakuru is home.

To my fellow Nakurians, this is the moment to become deliberate about the future of our county. We must stop treating elections as a season of empty rhetor
