Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency

Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency CRVWWDA is a water works development Agency in Kenya. It was established through Kenya Gazette Notice No. 4 dated 7thFebruary 2020.

Mandated to provide dependable water and sanitation infrastructure in Nakuru, Baringo, Laikipia, Nyandarua and Narok. The Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (CRVWWDA) is one of the nine (9) Water Works Development Agencies in Kenya and was formed under Section 65 of the Water Act, 2016. The region served by the Agency comprise of the five Counties of Nakuru, Narok, Laikipia, Baring

o and Nyandarua. The four Counties of Nakuru, Narok, Baringo and Nyandarua were initially under the former Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (RVWWDA) while Laikipia County was under the Northern Water Works Development Agency (NWWDA).The RVWWDA had itself replaced the Rift Valley Water Services Board (RVWSB) that operated in seven Counties, namely, Turkana, West Pokot, Elgeyo/Marakwet,Nakuru, Narok, Baringo and Nyandarua under the Water Act, 2002. The Agency is a state Corporation under the Ministry of Water & Sanitation and Irrigation.

The Agency today officially handed over the Pusol Water Project site to the contractor, marking the beginning of works aimed at improving access to reliable and sustainable water services for residents of Pusol, Pokot South Sub-County, West Pokot County.

The project, implemented under the Equalization Fund Programme, involves the Rehabilitation of existing system and expansion of the project to enhance water distribution to the community addressing water scarcity in the area.

The project is expected to ease the water challenges faced by the local community and improve access to water for more than 1,500 households ,4No schools and other critical institutions.

It is with great joy that the residents of Orolwo, Kacheliba, West Pokot County, warmly welcomed the Orolwo Dispensary Water Project, being implemented under the Equalization Fund โ€“ First Marginalization Project.

The Agency today handed over the project site to the contractor to commence works. The project comes at a crucial time for the community, which has faced persistent water challenges, and is expected to significantly improve access to reliable water services.

The project scope entails the drilling and equipping of a borehole, construction of a water kiosk, and installation of a water distribution pipeline and a 24 m3 18m high elevated steel tank for storage. Upon completion, the project will serve Orolwo Dispensary, Orolwo Police Station, Orolwo Junior and Senior School and approximately 2,000 residents of Orolwo.

The project is being implemented by Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency jointly with North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency marking an important milestone in addressing the water needs of the Orolwo community.

Also present were a representative of Dr. Titus Lotee, Area Member of Parliament, the Area Chief, community leaders and other stakeholders, who welcomed the project and expressed optimism about its impact on the community.

Hon. Musa Sirma today graced the site handover ceremony for the Ngusero Water Supply Project, marking a significant milestone towards addressing the longstanding water challenges faced by residents of Ngusero.

The much-awaited project implemented by the Agency, has been warmly welcomed by the local community, which has over the years relied on water from Lelmolok intake to meet their daily needs.

The project will involve the extension of a water pipeline from the existing masonry tank at Kokorwonin , to a new 100mยณ masonry tank, enhancing water storage and distribution to the community.

The project is expected to improve access to reliable and adequate water supply for the 1,400 residents of Ngusero and parts of Mandina to improved livelihoods and the overall well-being of the community.

The site handover signals the commencement of works and underscores the Agencyโ€™s commitment to delivering sustainable water infrastructure and improving access to water for communities.

Dr. Njage Makanga, the newly appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors, was today welcomed to the Agency by the Board of Directors and CEO CPA Douglas Murei, marking the beginning of a new chapter of leadership.

Dr. Makanga interacted with the Board, Management and staff, reaffirming the importance of teamwork, collaboration and commitment in advancing the Agencyโ€™s mandate.

In his remarks, the Chairman congratulated the former Chairman, Hon. Mathenge Ndiritu, for his able and diligent leadership in steering the Agency throughout his tenure.

Eng. Erick Mugaa, Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, today received the newly appointed Chairman of the Board, Dr. Njage Makanga and CEO, CPA Douglas Murei, who paid a courtesy call at the Ministry.

The leadership also paid a courtesy call to Mr. Julius Korir, Principal Secretary, State Department for Water and Sanitation.

The engagements provided an opportunity to discuss the Agencyโ€™s mandate, strategic priorities and ongoing efforts to deliver dependable water and sanitation infrastructure across its area of jurisdiction.

The leadership reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Ministry to strengthen service delivery, accelerate project implementation and contribute to the Governmentโ€™s agenda of expanding access to safe water and improved sanitation.

Eng. Erick Mugaa, Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, accompanied by CEO CPA Douglas Murei , today led a consultative meeting with H.E. Gladys Wanga, Governor of Homa Bay County.

The engagement focused on strengthening collaboration between the National and County Governments in advancing water and sanitation infrastructure in Homa Bay, with particular emphasis on the completed Oyugis and Kendu Bay Water Supply Projects and the ongoing Last Mile Connectivity works.

The projects, which serve communities across Rachuonyo and are operated by Homa Bay Water and Sanitation Company (HOMAWASCO), have a combined installed treatment capacity of 18,000 mยณ per day and are designed to improve access to safe, reliable and affordable water.

The discussions also highlighted the need for a phase III of the last-mile connectivity to extend 136 km pipeline to currently unserved areas.

In Laikipia East, Laikipia County, the Agency, in partnership with the area Member of Parliament, conducted a public engagement forum to gather residentsโ€™ views and priorities on the proposed FY 2026/2027 water projects.

The proposed projects include Nyariginuโ€“Umande, Kihiu Mwirioโ€“Ngobit, Tharuaโ€“Thigiti, and Kiandegeโ€“Nyambogichi Water Projects.

The engagement provided an important platform for community members to share their views and contribute to shaping projects that respond to their water needs. The exercise marks the initial stage towards implementation of the proposed projects.

The Agency remains committed to meaningful community participation and delivering Dependable Water and Sanitation Infrastructure across its area of jurisdiction.
