The river between by ngugi wa thiongo
The book is set during pre-colonial Kenya. The writer tells of how life was then and now with the intrusion of the European.
The main character waiyaki is caught between following his customs and the new colonizers ways of life.
Waiyaki comes from the lineage of the old great prophet among the agikuyu people Mugo wa kibiru who once prophesied about the coming of Europeans who would disrupt their way of life. Men with clothes like 🦋.
But the people scorned him, this made mugo angry and he left to go and preach to other people.

Waiyaki's father chege also from the same lineage warns his people of the coming of the Europeans but the people won't listen. As he comes of age he takes waiyaki to the slopes of kerinyaga where the God of gikuyu resides and he narrates to the boy about the old prophesy and that a man must rise and save his people in time of need.
Waiyaki is left disturbed and he perhaps thought it was the Olds man dream. How could he expect him to save the people yet he was only a boy, whom had yet undergone the old ritual of becoming a man.
Waiyaki follows chege's advice and enrols at siriama a mission school so that he may learn the white man's magic.
Later on chege dies and waiyaki has to man up. After education waiyaki becomes a teacher who is well renowned like his old father and respected to. He makes a clarion call to the people to build as many schools as possible so that the mountain can learn the white man's magic and be able to forge a strong alliance against the white.

Meanwhile waiyakis effort bears fruits but he faces strong opposition from kabonye and old man who also knew of the prophesy about a man who would save his people. Kabonye who initially was Joshua's follower broke from Joshua so as to lead the people. He does everything possible and even forms a kiama( council of elders) where they make waiyaki to swear never to betray the tribes custom.

Unfortunately pressure piles upon waiyaki on the

Honestly, sometimes😁,well, most of the times I tend to give up just like anybody else, you know, throw up my hands, swear I ain't going back to that f*** s**tty job.

I _ain't gonna try any more._

Nothing is really working, but again, I reflect back.

I *_remember_* .

Now that's important .

*REMEMBERING*
I tend to be so forgetful. When stressed out, I shamelessly forget where I've come from, those days when I absolutely had nothing, and was nothing.

Those days when I used to pray, faithfully tithe, or do the best I could in service to God while asking him to make something or someone out of me, and he did.

I forget I hadn't any formal training, but now God has been gracious to me, and despite everything, I'm now a pillar in society.
Got a career to protect, a job that pays my bills, and whatever.

I may look at my *payslip* , bills consuming everything, and get sad, or at times mad on everyone, as if they owe me s**t.

They dont anyway, forgetting I'm left with some dignity, you know I can walk even if not shoulder high, I can at least be an inspiration to someone.

That gives me the needed drive, by just remembering so it's of importance that no matter what life throws at you, the words are *no matter* just know that you're only passing through, not staying but passing.

*Psalms 23* and I quote says that, " Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for thy road and thy staff guideth me"._

God will always be there, just *REMEMBER* where you've come from, forge ahead in faith, and everything else will align.

Be blessed for reading this.

The ways of God can never be matched with man's.
There are times in my life I fail to fathom for all the blessings that he has showered me in my life.
At times when I'm broke or in verge of being completely broke to ashes he in his own unique way causes someone to sort my financial issues.

I cannot claim that I'm the best tither there is, I don't even honor that all the time, but God's grace is always so sufficient.
He blesses me in ways where all I saw was darkness and Despair a new hope is lit before me.

Therefore I'll keep my faith, I will be a blessing to people around me not because I expect more blessings but because it's my responsibility to be human, to touch a life in the same way God does mine in unexpected ways.

Be honest to yourself.

Whatever I do in 2026 henceforth it is important that I be honest to myself.
I can no longer afford to please people yet within I'm suffering.

I can no longer afford to live flashly yet, I live off debts, debts that accrue huge interest rates.
I can no longer watch as my sources of revenue come and go without saving a portion of it, not because I have dreams or things I wanna buy. But saving for savings sake because savings acts as a hedge against life inevitable ability to scare the hell out me.

Talking of life inevitabilties, there is nothing worse like calling a friend to help you with some money, because you've got no reserves.
Or worse which is true that the friend you expect to get help from also has bigger issues, that limits his/her help.
After all no one owes nobody s**t.

That is why 2026 I have made the bold decision of treating savings as part of my recurrent expenditure.

I know that decision will not be easy, but between borrowing a friend money and saving I opt for savings.

Also talking of honesty, my relationship with God needs to strengthen.

I can no longer afford to sit pretty, staring at the skies, Those empty moments will be replaced with reading and meditating the holy scriptures.

So dear self, let honesty be your policy you need that more than you think in so many areas of your life.

May God help you.

The mind is such a powerful place and what you feed it can affect you in a powerful way. You got to be selective on what you let stay.

Every bit of savings is like taking a point in the future that would have been owned by someone else and giving it back to yourself.

Truth is God operates on a very different dimension from us humans, After all he is the creator and we are the created.

Whenever you are going through a period of dryness at first it never makes sense, I mean there is no pain worth understanding, but when you read stories of great men and women of the bible you get to understand at the end God does come through in his own special way.
Case in point he blessed Abraham with a son at his old age, he led the Israelites out of egypt's slavery into canaan. Most importantly he has a track record of coming through for his people.

God has a way of surprising us, when we fall sick or our loved ones fall sick we normally have faith that they'll get well.
When we are out of employment or the business is not doing well, we have faith it will work out eventually without actually knowing how.

God being God sends us a miracle that exceed our expectations, a friend reaches out or even a complete stranger comes to your aid.
If it's a case of sickness, out of nowhere God heals you, your body no longer requires the meds.

Ndio maana nasema wacha Mungu aitwe Mungu. Just relax because God is busy making a way for you, he got you na there is no way he'll let you fall.

God will definitely turn your cry into songs of joy just hold on a little longer.

22/12/2025

In our moments of desperation when we feel like we can longer continue this way. You've prayed but it feels like heavens are closed for business, it is when a miracle happens.

You wonder why it took so long to get your prayers answered, to open those doors for you.
Truth is God operates on a different level, the waiting period is so important because it makes you value what God gives you, you appreciate every pain you've gone through.

This at the end makes you a better person, and a motivator to the brokenhearted because you've tasted life's cup of bitterness and can inspire a heart to trust in God, in the midst of life's chaos.

No matter what you go through, know this that all that like a storm shall calm down, and better days are coming.

Son of the soil part 2.. Abdullahi was a mau mau war veteran he came back home only to learn that his family had been killed, he didn't have anything else left for him in limuru, but before he could leave he sold ½acre of his 1 ace land to try out some business, which failed.

Getting a loan too required money, in a country that he fought for. So he ended up selling the other half acre. He bought himself a donkey and a cart which he used to transport goods for others to the market.
Before he left limuru, he bumped upon a child 'joseph' a street kid, whose piece of 🍞 was taken from him by big kids. He inquired about him and told him that he was his big brother who had come back from the war.

He took him along to lands unknown and they settled at Illmorog where he set a little shop and a place to take a little "porridge". (Alcohol) As Uhuru kenyatta called it when eulogising Baba Raila Amolo Odinga 😂. Anyways.

The next guy Mr. Munira was a teacher he settled there and tried his best to convince locals to enroll in his school, it was daunting but eventually locals accepted him and children came he even reached a point of needing extra teachers because he couldn't handle the 4 new classes alone.
Initially he would have some learners come in the morning others in the afternoon.
Luckily for him his former student came along 'kagera'. He wasn't employed immediately though because he wasn't even a trained teacher, how he turned out to be employed there is a story for another episode.

The thing is PETALS OF BLOOD among other stories by the late Ngugi wa thiongo clearly tells of the betrayal that the black government subjected it's people, they went enmass to acquire property with no regard for the poor who had fought to have their lands back.

Many expected land to be redistributed to the poor, land being a factor of production would help people produce and live dignified lives, but the black lords then set punitive policies a result of which created a country of...
