KES 97 MILLION WORTH OF MEDICAL SUPPLIES FLAGGED-OFF FOR DISTRIBUTION ACROSS 143 HEALTHCARE FACILITIES

Narok County Chief of staff, Weldon Rop, has this morning flagged-off the distribution of KES 97 Million worth of medical Medical supplies to 143 healthcare facilities across the county.

This consignment from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) will provide all the county healthcare facilities with essential commodities for the third quarter of the 2025/26 Financial Year.

While flagging off the distribution of the consignment, the Chief of Staff noted that the county government was in the process of recruiting 200 additional healthcare workers in order to address staffing needs and ensure efficient delivery of healthcare services to the residents of Narok county.

Present were Chief Officer for Clinical Services Jane Kiok, Director of Health Dr. Francis Kiio, Medical Superintendent Dr. Emejen Losepicho, and members of the County Health Management Team, among others.

Dr.Nyokabi Health Reforms Consultant, alongside the Hon. Vivian Sereti County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Health, Bishop Issac Pere Hospital Chairman to Narok County Referral Hospital to spearhead comprehensive health system reforms Visit.

These reforms are expected to focus on:

Social Health Authority reforms and network connectivity system

Improving service delivery and patient care

Enhancing hospital management and accountability systems

Upgrading disease surveillance and response

Capacity building for healthcare workers

Assess current hospital operations and identify gaps

Improve efficiency in service delivery

Strengthen coordination between all departments

Recommend sustainable structural renovations for old premises.

STAKEHOLDERS QUARTERLY REVIEW MEETING ON SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH (SRH)

Narok County Government, in collaboration with Group Transcultural Relations (GRT), convened the quarterly stakeholders' review meeting on the implementation of the Imarisha Mwanamke Afya na Rasilimali Project in Narok County.

The primary objective was to review the draft Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) Gamified Curriculum Manual and to provide technical input for refinement and improvement. The Gamified Curriculum Manual is an innovative tool developed to enhance adolescent engagement through interactive and culturally responsive learning approaches. The manual contains five core modules covering puberty and dignity, consent and boundaries, sexual and reproductive health services, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) as well as life skills and digital safety.

The stakeholders emphasized the importance of engaging adolescents in co-creating the gamified learning tools to ensure the content remains relatable and impactful. The approach was recognized as an effective method for reducing shame, stigma, and fear often associated with Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) conversations.

VIVIAN SERETI TAKES OVER AS THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBER FOR HEALTH

Following the recent cabinet reshuffle announced by H.E. Governor Patrick Keturet Ole Ntutu EGH, during his first Media briefing on the year held on the 16th of January, the outgoing CECM for Health Antony Namunkuk, yesterday officially handed over the Health docket to the incoming CECM Vivian Sereti.

Subsequent to the transition, Mr. Antony Namunkuk effectively assumed his role as the CECM in charge of Lands, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development, a docket previously held by Vivian Sereti.

The Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, today held a consultative meeting with the top leadership of the Kenya Environmental and Public Health Practitioners Union (KEHPHPU), led by Secretary General Mr Brown Ashira.

Discussions centred on the review of the public health legislative framework, including the formal gazettement of regulated functions. This process is expected to strengthen the legal mandate of public health practitioners and enhance the enforcement of sanitation and hygiene standards nationwide.

The meeting also addressed workforce challenges within the sector, with emphasis on existing staffing gaps, the need for improved financing, and enhanced budgetary allocations to support public health technicians and specialists.

On the policy front, the engagement explored the harmonisation of Community Health Associations, alongside the formal registration and licensing of practitioners, as key measures to strengthen professionalism, accountability, and service delivery in public health practice.

The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its commitment to building a resilient health system by ensuring that public health practitioners are adequately supported and equipped to protect and promote the health of all Kenyans.

🚨 Cholera Outbreak Response Narok County

MSF, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Kenya Red Cross Society, is responding to a cholera outbreak in Transmara West and South sub-counties.

In Transmara West:
✅ Set up a Cholera Treatment Unit (CTU), conducted staff training, improved patient flow, Infection Prevention and Control setup, and hospital water supply by connecting to the town’s treatment unit and chlorinating water.
✅ Conducted health promotion & hygiene education in the community.
✅ Distributed water treatment sachets in high-risk areas.
✅ Launched Case Area Targeted Interventions (CATIs) for community members living in the surrounding area of active cholera cases, combining hygiene education, water & sanitation support.
✅Support in upcoming vaccination.

In Transmara South:
✅ Supported case management, hiring and capacity building of staff.
✅ Supported in relocating the isolation and setting up a triage
✅ Case-area targeted interventions (CATIs)
✅ Health promotion & hygiene education to the community
✅ Distributed water treatment sachets in high-risk areas

As of October 22, 138 cases have been reported in Narok County, with 5 lives lost in Transmara West. We are working urgently with partners to stop the spread and save lives.
