Although there is a new sewer line along Kibagare River within and around City Park (installed in 2018 by Athi Water Works Development Agency ) the river still looks polluted meaning there might be new illegal connections directing sewer water into Kibagare river, upstream.

A man named Kirongo and who by his own wish originally preserved the City Park, was buried there. When he died he is said to have left a spell to protect the forest. He and many more shared a vision to protect the site.

To quote Ian Parker: “ far from being edifices created by farsighted colonial administrations, these areas were cases of pre-colonial conservation and more power to the spirits of those who cursed them into being preserved. City Park exists today because in the 1990s Nairobi residents took action against a grab of the park. Forming , they protested the conversion of public land to private land in newspapers and government offices. This public action finally led to the gazettement of City Park as a National Monument in 2009, protected under the Museums and Heritage Act.

, a scientist from the Institute of Primate Research has extensively studied the movements, nature and behavioral characteristics of Sykes,... held a talk at City Park attended by ,camera men, and hawkers/vendors operating within City Park... The interactive talk focused on understanding the hazards and implications of close and unmonitored forms of contact with these primates.
