ORPPKenya engages SGs of funded political parties over PPF allocation
The ORPP today,in Nairobi City County held a consultative meeting with Secretaries-General(SGs) of the 48 currently funded political parties under the Political Parties Fund (PPF), a Fund administered by ORPP.
The meeting briefed parties on their respective allocation in the FY 2026/27 as contained in the budget PPF in the year.
Registrar of Political Parties, J.C. Lorionokou, in the session, appreciated the parties' for prudent financial management and accounting of the funds allocated as statutory requirement.
The Registrar underscored that financial accountability by parties allocations as a prerequisite of subsequent allocations based on outcome of Office of the Auditor-General, Kenya audited financial statements of the respective parties.
He further underscored financial accountability, transparency and reporting as critical obligations of parties as per the Political Parties Act and other regulatory requirements,whose adherence spurs good governance practices within parties.
Assistant Registrar, CPA Florence Birya educated on the key purposes of the funds allocated to parties including promoting representation of all, democratic -bound civic education and policy advocacy while outlining spending thresholds and the outlawed practices of funds to parties.
Director Finance, Joshua Kimulu giving the status of distribution of the Political Parties Fund for the 2026/27 Financial Year, elaborately outlined the PPF administration process including the sources,distribution criteria,purposes,offences and reporting measures within given timelines.
Director Compliance D.N. Kinuthia, guided the SGs in a session as they sought clarifications and put forth PPF-related recommendations,some of which would be considered as aspects of legal reform.
The meeting coordinated by the Finance department, was part of ORPP continuous consultations and briefings to political parties on key processes.
