Saint Kitts and Nevis Advances Health Workforce Planning with Centralised Database
10–14 August 2026

The Ministry of Health in Saint Kitts and Nevis, with support from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Pandemic Fund, has launched a mission to operationalise the country’s new Centralised Health Workforce Database and Dashboard of Indicators (CHWD+).

This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening national capacity for pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response. Built on the DHIS2 platform and customised for Saint Kitts and Nevis, the CHWD+ will provide timely, standardised health workforce data to guide planning, deployment, and decision-making.

During the five-day mission, designated personnel will be trained to use the system, initiate data collection and entry, and test operational workflows across ministries, hospitals, and health centres in both Saint Kitts and Nevis. The mission will also assess technical requirements such as connectivity, equipment configuration, and user access, ensuring readiness for sustained data entry and quality review.

Saint Kitts and Nevis is the first participating country under this initiative to begin entering health workforce data into its customised CHWD+. The mission will document the implementation experience through photographs, interviews, and key messages, highlighting the Federation’s leadership in modernising health workforce planning.

Permanent Secretary, Mr. Curtis Martin declared, “By strengthening data systems, Saint Kitts and Nevis reaffirms its commitment to building strength, protecting public health, and advancing its vision of a Sustainable Island State.”

JNF Hospital Private Ward Reopens Following Major Refurbishment A Milestone in Healthcare Transformation

Basseterre, St. Kitts – August 11, 2026 — The Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital proudly announces the reopening of its Private Ward, marking another significant step in the Federation’s ongoing healthcare transformation journey.

A symbolic opening ceremony was held ahead of the ward’s full operation set for Monday, August 24, with the Hon. Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Dr. Terrance Drew, cutting the ribbon and touring the newly refurbished facility.

The comprehensive refurbishment represents an investment exceeding $400,000 over the past year and reflects the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to world-class service for citizens, residents, and visitors alike.

The full renovation included:

* Redone roofing by Anthony Richardson of Roofing Specialists and
partners from Taiwan
* Interior repainting
* Replacement of all furniture, equipment, air conditioners, and
vents
* Upgraded kitchen and staff lounge, and refurbished bathrooms
* Addition of branded linens, robes, and food service items
* Installation of televisions in every room and a new buzzer system
* Redesigned sluice, medication, and storage rooms

In total, 15 private rooms are now available to the general public, offering enhanced comfort, modern amenities, and a renewed sense of care.

Permanent Secretary Mr. Curtis Martin commended the collaborative efforts of local and international partners, noting that the project embodies the Ministry’s guiding mantra:

“People First, Quality Always.”

This milestone stands as a testament to the Government’s dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that caring people care for people in an environment conducive to caring.

This morning, the Ministry of Health officially welcomed 47 nurses from Ghana who have arrived in the Federation to strengthen the national nursing workforce. Of the 47 nurses, 18 will support Community Health Services, while 29 will be assigned to hospital services.

Their addition represents an important boost to healthcare delivery, helping to strengthen staffing capacity and ensure that patients have access to the nursing care they need across both community and hospital settings.

Community Voices Help Shape the Future of Healthcare in Conaree

Residents from Conaree, Half Moon Bay, Canada, Keys, Needsmust, Kittstoddart’s and surrounding communities gathered at the Conaree Community Centre on Thursday, August 6, 2026, for a community consultation on the proposed new Conaree Health Centre.

The consultation provided an opportunity to discuss plans for the new facility, which is intended to become the first stand-alone health centre in Conaree and expand access to primary healthcare services for residents throughout the surrounding communities.

In attendance were Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, along with officials from the Ministry of Health and the Public Works Department.

The engagement formed an important part of the planning process, allowing residents to learn more about the proposed development and contribute their perspectives as plans for the facility move forward.

The Ministry of Health continues to place community engagement at the heart of healthcare development, ensuring that the voices of the people who will ultimately use these services are considered as we work to strengthen access to quality healthcare across the Federation.

The Ministry of Health was pleased to welcome Ms. Sarah Nelson, Consul General, and Ms. Janice Jordan, American Citizen Services Officer, of the U.S. Embassy in Bridgetown, Barbados, to the Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

The delegation met with members of the Ministry's leadership, including Permanent Secretary Mr. Curtis Martin, Dr. Jenson Morton, Director of Health Projects and Strategic Initiatives, Mrs. Gardenia Destang-Richardson, Director of Health Institutions, and Dr. Daveen Wilkin, Medical Chief of Staff at the JNF General Hospital. During the visit, the team provided an overview of the healthcare services available throughout the Federation, followed by a guided tour of the hospital's facilities.

The visit formed part of the U.S. Embassy's efforts to gain a firsthand understanding of the healthcare system in St. Kitts and Nevis, particularly the level of care and services that American citizens could expect to receive in the event of a medical emergency while visiting the Federation.

At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation expressed how impressed they were with the Joseph N. France General Hospital, commending both the facility and the quality of healthcare services provided.

The Ministry of Health remains committed to delivering safe, high-quality healthcare to residents and visitors alike while fostering strong partnerships with our regional and international stakeholders.

Please be advised that all dental clinics within Community Health Services, including the Newtown, Pogson and Molineux Dental Clinics, will be closed on Thursday, 6th August 2026 to facilitate the attendance of Dental Staff at the funeral service of their fallen colleague and staff member, Mrs Adonis Harvey.

Regular dental services will resume on Friday, 7th August 2026 at 8:00 a.m.
