๐Ÿฅ— Promoting Healthy Choices, One Meal at a Time!

The Health Promotion Unit, Ministry of Health, was pleased to participate in the St. Kitts Christian Brethren Assemblies Health Forum, where Mrs. Latoya Matthew-Duncan, Acting Health Promotion Unit Coordinator and Nutrition Surveillance Coordinator, delivered an informative presentation on โ€œNutrition & Health: Making Healthy Food Choices.โ€

The session focused on practical ways individuals and families can improve their health through everyday food choices, including balanced meals, appropriate portion sizes, healthier preparation methods, increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, and reducing excess sugar, salt and unhealthy fats.

Participants were also encouraged to recognize that healthy eating does not mean giving up our traditional Caribbean foods, but rather making informed choices about what we eat, how much we eat, and how our food is prepared.

The Health Promotion Unit remains committed to empowering individuals, families and communities with the knowledge and tools needed to make healthier choices and reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases.

๐Ÿ‘ We extend our sincere thanks to the St. Kitts Christian Brethren Assemblies for the invitation and for continuing to create opportunities to promote health and wellness within our communities.

Healthy choices today contribute to healthier lives tomorrow! ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒฑ From Seedling to Garden! ๐Ÿชด๐Ÿ’š

We love seeing our seedlings growing in their new homes! ๐ŸŒฟ

Following the Ministry of Healthโ€™s recent seedling distribution activity, one of our recipients shared this wonderful video showing the progress of the seedlings they received. Itโ€™s a great reminder that sometimes, all it takes is one small plant to start a healthier journey.

Growing your own food can be simple, rewarding and a great way to encourage healthier eating. Whether you have a backyard, a small garden space, or just a few containers around your home, you can grow something! ๐Ÿฅฌ๐Ÿ†๐ŸŒฟ

We hope this inspires more individuals and families across St. Kitts and Nevis to start their own home gardens, grow more local foods and enjoy the benefits of fresh, nutritious produce.

๐ŸŒฑ Start small. Grow what you can. Eat what you grow.
Every garden begins with that first plant!

A special thank you to our recipient for sharing this video and allowing us to see their seedlings flourishing. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ‘

Hypertension Poster โ€“ "Steady Your Blood Pressure During Emergencies"
๐Ÿฉบ Stay Ready. Stay Healthy.
Emergencies and natural disasters can disrupt your daily routine, but your blood pressure should never be left unmanaged.
If you are living with hypertension:
โœ… Keep at least a 2-week supply of your medication.
โœ… Reduce your sodium intake, especially when relying on canned or packaged foods.
โœ… Stay hydrated throughout the day.
โœ… Resume your regular healthcare visits as soon as it is safe to do so.
Planning ahead helps protect your health when it matters most.

Mental Health Poster โ€“ "Be Prepared to Stay Grounded During Any Disaster"
๐Ÿ’š Your mental health mattersโ€”before, during, and after a disaster.
It's normal to experience stress, worry, or anxiety during emergencies. Taking care of your emotional well-being is just as important as protecting your physical health.
Remember to:
๐Ÿซ‚ Stay connected with family, friends, or trusted community members.
๐Ÿง˜ Take a few moments to breathe and relax when you feel overwhelmed.
๐Ÿšซ Choose healthy coping strategies and avoid alcohol or drugs to manage stress.
If you're struggling, don't hesitate to reach out for support.
