The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities and Domestic Transport wishes to inform the public of a significant step forward in the Federation’s transition toward sustainable transportation and energy use.
Effective May 1, 2026, the import duty on fully electric vehicles aged 0 to 4 years has been reduced from 45% to 10%. This policy adjustment represents a meaningful shift, making electric vehicles more accessible and positioning them as a practical option for individuals and businesses across St. Kitts and Nevis.
This advancement is driven by the Government’s DRIVE Initiative (Decarbonized Roadway Initiative for Vehicle Electrification), a strategic effort aimed at reducing fuel dependence, lowering emissions, and modernizing the way we move as a nation.
Through this initiative, residents can expect:
* Reduced spending on fuel
* A cleaner, healthier environment
* Greater control and efficiency in transportation choices
The Ministry extends sincere appreciation to the Energy Unit for its leadership and technical guidance in advancing this initiative. We also acknowledge the Hon. Konris Maynard, Minister responsible for Energy and Public Infrastructure, for his continued vision and commitment to national development in the energy and transport sectors.
We further thank the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis for its decisive action in implementing forward-thinking policies, along with all stakeholders, partners, and contributors whose collaboration has made this milestone possible.
The transition toward cleaner, smarter transportation is already underway, and this is only the beginning.
