EMBASSY OF SRI LANKA IN SEOUL INTENSIFIES EFFORTS TO PROMOTE SRI LANKA EXPO 2027 IN SOUTH KOREA

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul has intensified its efforts to promote Sri Lanka Expo 2027 among the Korean business community, with a series of high-level meetings held with leading trade and business promotion organizations in the Republic of Korea.

As part of its ongoing efforts to attract strong participation from the Korean business community, the Embassy facilitated meetings with several prominent Korean business and trade organizations, including the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Korea Importers Association (KOIMA), Korea Offshore & Shipbuilding Association (KOSHIPA), and Global Business Alliance (GBA).

The Sri Lankan delegation was headed by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea, M.K. Pathmanaathan, together with Kumudini Mudalige, Additional Director General of the Export Development Board of Sri Lanka, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on Sri Lanka Expo 2027 and the opportunities available for Korean companies. Kasun Balasooriya, First Secretary (Commercial) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul, also participated in the meetings and supported the engagement with the Korean business community.

During the meeting with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), the Sri Lankan delegation engaged with the Vice President of the International Trade Division, Chul Min Yoon. Discussions focused on introducing Sri Lanka Expo 2027 to the Korean business community and encouraging regional chambers of KCCI to explore participation in the Expo and potential business opportunities in Sri Lanka.

The delegation also held discussions with the Korea Importers Association (KOIMA), represented by the Chairman, Youn Young Mi, and Amb. Ki-chang KWON, Executive Vice Chairman. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss opportunities for expanding bilateral trade and encouraging Korean importers to explore Sri Lankan products and suppliers. Particular attention was given to the potential for creating greater awareness among Korean businesses of the preferential trading opportunities available under the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA).

Engagement was also held with the Korea Offshore & Shipbuilding Association (KOSHIPA), represented by the Vice Chairman Choong Jong OH. The discussion focused on opportunities for greater cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Korean maritime and shipbuilding industry. The Embassy highlighted the potential for Korean companies to explore Sri Lanka’s capabilities and investment opportunities in areas including shipbuilding, ship repair, offshore engineering, marine services and related manufacturing, while encouraging KOSHIPA members to consider participating in Sri Lanka Expo 2027.

In addition to these institutional engagements, the Embassy hosted a dedicated meeting at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul with the Global Business Alliance (GBA), with the participation of 16 members of the Alliance. The meeting was led by the Chairman of GBA, Oh Sinan OZTURK . The session provided an important opportunity to directly engage with representatives of Korean businesses and share comprehensive information on Sri Lanka Expo 2027, including the opportunities available for trade, investment and business partnerships.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul is making its fullest efforts to mobilize participation from the Korean private sector in Sri Lanka Expo 2027, recognizing the Expo as an important opportunity to further strengthen bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Republic of Korea.
