3. Unification Ministry’s Stance on Press Statement by the Spokesperson for the Tenth Department of the North’s Foreign Ministry
The ROK Government, in line with its consistent policy of peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula, respects the North Korean system and does not pursue hostile actions against the North.
Since taking office, the Lee Jae Myung administration has demonstrated its commitment to peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula through concrete actions. These include the immediate suspension of anti-North Korea leaflet distribution and loudspeaker broadcasts and, unlike previous administrations, the introduction of legislative measures to prevent their recurrence. The Government also promptly expressed regret over the drone incident, reaffirmed its determination to prevent a recurrence, and revised relevant regulations to avert further escalation of tensions.
President Lee Jae Myung stated during the Special Mass for Peace and Solidarity on June 14 that he would do everything possible to prevent accidental inter-Korean clashes, restore military confidence, and build a sustainable peace regime.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Unification will remain steadfast in implementing measures aimed at restoring inter-Korean trust in support of the President’s commitment to peace on the Korean Peninsula.
