🇨🇿 Dnes si připomínáme Den památky obětí invaze v roce 1968 a následné okupace vojsky Varšavské smlouvy. Tento den je věnován vzpomínce na všechny, jejichž životy byly tragicky poznamenány událostmi srpna 1968. Nezapomínáme. 🕊️

🇬🇧Today we commemorate the Memorial Day for the Victims of the 1968 Invasion and subsequent occupation by Warsaw Pact troops. This day is dedicated to the memory of all those whose lives were tragically affected by the events of August 1968. We do not forget. 🕊️

🇨🇿 Stejně jako v posledních dvou letech i letos byla v KW odsloužena mše na žádost českého velvyslance na počest Dne české státnosti a sv. Václava. Mši celebroval apoštolský nuncius, arcibiskup Eugene Martin Nugent.

Mše, která se konala 11.8. v bazilice Panny Marie Arabské v Ahmadi, se účastnili, kromě zástupců diplomatického sboru i krajané, dále řada věřících z křesťanské komunity a i několik muslimů.

Kromě úvodního proslovu velvyslance a samotné mše bylo promítnuto i video o životě sv. Václava a chór zaspíval i koledu o králi Václavovi.

Zároveň se také přítomni rozloučili s papežským nunciem, arcibiskupem E. M. Nugentem, který ukončuje svou misi v Kuvajtu a v září se ujme papežské nunciatury v České republice, což dodalo celé akci jedinečný význam.

🇬🇧Just as in the past two years, a Mass was held in Kuwait this year at the request of the Czech Ambassador to honor the Day of Czech Statehood and St. Wenceslas. It was celebrated by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent.

The Mass, held on August 11 at the Minor Basilica Our Lady of Arabia in Ahmadi, was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, CZ expatriates, numerous members of the Christian community, and several Muslims.

In addition to the Ambassador's opening remarks and the Mass itself, a video about the life of St. Wenceslas was screened, and a choir sang a carol about King Wenceslas.

Those present also bade farewell to the Nuncio, Archbishop E. M. Nugent, who is concluding his mission in Kuwait and will assume the role of Nuncio to the Czech Republic in September — a fact that lent special significance to the event.

🇬🇧 Team of the Czech Embassy led by the Ambassador visited beautiful and blessed Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Arabia to prepare for the Mass commemorating the st. Wenceslas Day and the Czech Statehood Day.

⛪️ The Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Arabia in Ahmadi, Kuwait, is the oldest Catholic church in the country, tracing its origins to a temporary chapel blessed in 1948 and a permanent building completed in 1956. In 2025, Pope Leo XIV granted it the title of minor basilica by decree — making it the first basilica of its kind on the entire Arabian Peninsula and in the Gulf. The solemn proclamation of this title took place in 2026 in Ahmadi, with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin in attendance. The honor also underscores Kuwait's long-standing good relations with the Holy See — Kuwait was the first Gulf state to establish diplomatic relations with the Vatican, in 1968.

🇨🇿 Tým českého velvyslanectví vedený velvyslancem navštívil krásnou a požehnanou menší baziliku Panny Marie Arabské, aby připravil mši svatou u příležitosti svátku svatého Václava a Dne české státnosti.

⛪️ Bazilika Panny Marie Arabské v kuvajtském Ahmadí je nejstarším katolickým kostelem v Kuvajtu, jehož počátky sahají k prozatímní kapli posvěcené v roce 1948 a k trvalé stavbě dokončené v roce 1956. V roce 2025 jí papež Lev XIV. dekretem udělil titul menší baziliky – jde o vůbec první baziliku na celém Arabském poloostrově a v Zálivu. Slavnostní vyhlášení tohoto titulu proběhlo v roce 2026 v Ahmadí za účasti vatikánského státního sekretáře kardinála Pietra Parolina. Ocenění zdůrazňuje i dlouhodobě dobré vztahy Kuvajtu se Svatým stolcem – Kuvajt byl v roce 1968 první zemí Zálivu, která s Vatikánem navázala diplomatické styky.

🇬🇧 Very productive meeting took place today 🇰🇼🤝🇨🇿.
Ambassador J. Chmiel and his Deputy A. Otypkova met with Minister of Commerce and Industry, H.E. Osama Khaled Abdallah Buday to discuss various topics of bilateral cooperation.

🇨🇿 Dnes proběhlo velmi produktivní jednání 🇰🇼🤝🇨🇿. Velvyslanec J. Chmiel a jeho zástupkyně A. Otýpková se setkali s ministrem obchodu a průmyslu, J. E. Osamou Khaled Abdallah Budayim, aby projednali různá témata bilaterální spolupráce.
