🦎🌿 In Our Gardens – Did You Know?

From time to time, two of the Sister Islands Rock Iguanas stop by our grounds, often basking in the sunshine or wandering through the gardens. These remarkable reptiles are an important part of our islands' natural heritage and a reminder of the unique biodiversity that makes the Cayman Islands such a special place.

If you're lucky enough to spot one during your visit, please admire it from a respectful distance and allow it to continue on its way undisturbed.

Have you seen one of our occasional iguana visitors around the property? We'd love to see your photos in the comments! 📸💚

🎨 It's Craft Market Thursday!

Meet one of our talented craft vendors, Mrs. Ellen Myrie!

Over the next few weeks, we'll be shining a spotlight on some of the amazing artisans who make our Craft Market so special. Today, we're excited to introduce Mrs. Ellen Myrie of Handmade Expressions, a talented creator whose passion for arts and crafts has been a lifelong pursuit.

Inspired by both nature and sustainability, many of her creations are made using recycled materials such as glass bottles, sea glass, soda can tabs, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles. She also incorporates natural elements including seashells, sea fans, sponges, bamboo, and rope, creating unique pieces that reflect the beauty of our island environment.

Her collection includes shell art, decorative picture frames, wall hangings, necklaces, candle holders, bottles filled with sand and seashells, and even handbags made from recycled soda can tabs that are crocheted together. Remarkably, she taught herself to crochet through online tutorials and has continued to expand her creative skills over the years.

For Mrs. Ellen crafting is more than a hobby—it's a way to relax, express creativity, and give new life to materials that might otherwise be discarded. Her passion for recycled art was inspired by seeing how much waste ends up in our local landfill and recognizing the potential for many of those items to be repurposed into something beautiful.

In fact, it's not uncommon to see her carrying a garbage bag on her daily walks, collecting litter, bottle caps, and soda can tabs that she can later transform into works of art.

Be sure to stop by the Cayman Brac Beach Resort TODAY, June 25th to meet Mrs. Ellen, hear more about her creative journey, and browse her one-of-a-kind handmade creations. ✨

Today, the Cayman Islands flag will be lowered to half-mast at Government buildings across all three islands as a mark of national respect during the Lying-in-State of former Chief Secretary James Ryan.

The ceremonial lowering of the flag will take place at the House of Parliament, with flags remaining at half-mast until the end of the day.

This observance forms part of the wider programme of events being held to honour Mr Ryan’s life, legacy and 39 years of dedicated public service to the Cayman Islands.
