The Progressives

The Progressives For Love of Country! They should expect and demand more of their Government, and participate more actively and openly in the political process.

The People’s Progressive Movement was founded on the belief that the people of the Cayman Islands recognise the need for a new approach to government in order to deal more effectively with the challenges that face the country. Government needs to be more efficient, better informed, more open and accountable, more ethical, and more responsive to the needs and wishes of the various communities of th

ese Islands; it needs to earn public confidence, not create apathy, insecurity, cynicism or fear. However, in order to achieve and maintain better government, and to establish public confidence, it is essential that the people play their part.

PPM Weekly Wrap Up

The past week was another busy one for the People’s Progressive Movement as our representatives continued engaging with communities, advocating for Caymanians, and representing our Islands at home and abroad.

Last weekend, PPM Deputy Leader Kenneth Bryan attended the 128th Philippine Independence Day Celebration, where he received a warm welcome from the Filipino community and joined in recognizing their many contributions to Cayman’s success and cultural diversity.

Meanwhile, Roy Tatum, MP for Red Bay, attended the ESU Cayman Islands Public Speaking Competition, where he congratulated Ms. Jhenelle Colquhoun on taking top honours and earning the opportunity to represent the Cayman Islands in London.

Elsewhere, Deputy Speaker and MP for George Town West, Hon. Pearlina McGaw-Lumsden, continued advocating for Caymanian families by bringing forward a motion to increase the personal duty-free allowance for returning residents from CI$500 to CI$800, helping to ease the burden of rising costs.

Kenneth Bryan and Roy Tatum also represented the Cayman Islands at the 5th Commonwealth Association of Public Accounts Committees (CAPAC) Conference in Trinidad and Tobago, joining regional leaders in discussions on accountability, transparency, and strengthening parliamentary oversight.

The PPM was also proud to celebrate the successful launch of the PPM Women’s Arm on June 6th at The Wharf. The new initiative aims to bring together women from all walks of life to help shape policy, strengthen community engagement, and play a greater role in Cayman’s future. We look forward to sharing more in the weeks ahead.

PPM Weekly Wrap Up

This week, Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly joined families, educators, and church leaders at the annual Child Month Service hosted at Creek Seventh-day Adventist Church under the theme “See Me, Hear Me.” The service highlighted the importance of supporting and empowering Cayman’s children, with Hon. O’Connor-Connolly delivering the closing remarks.

Hon. Pearlina McGaw-Lumsden and Roy Tatum, MP for Red Bay, also attended Meals on Wheels Cayman Islands’ annual fundraising gala, Orange You Glad Gala: Out of Africa. The event brought together community leaders and supporters for an evening dedicated to raising funds to provide hot meals and daily care for vulnerable seniors across the Cayman Islands.

Amidst the Sahara dust and intermittent rain, members of the Official Opposition continued discussions on several important national issues, including Government initiatives, the constitutional role of the Opposition, and the rising cost of living affecting Caymanian families.

Leader of the Opposition Hon. Joey Hew, Deputy Leader Kenneth Bryan, and Roy Tatum joined the Opposition’s weekly appearance on For The Record to discuss these matters and share their perspectives on current national challenges.

The Opposition also raised concerns regarding upcoming Water Authority rate increases and the impact they may have on household budgets. Deputy Leader Kenneth Bryan publicly called for greater efforts to ease the financial pressures facing Caymanian families during an already challenging economic period.

Meanwhile, Hon. Joey Hew responded to Government’s invitation to participate in the Cayman Forward Initiative. In an open letter, he expressed concerns about the proposed structure of the initiative and emphasized the importance of maintaining transparent parliamentary processes while preserving the Opposition’s constitutional role of scrutiny and accountability.

PPM representation was also strong at a George Town community meeting hosted by the RCIPS, where residents and community leaders discussed public safety concerns and policing initiatives. Hon. Joey Hew, Kenneth Bryan, Hon. Pearlina McGaw-Lumsden, Mr. Roy McTaggart and Mr. Roy Tatum attended, continuing the party’s commitment to listening to and engaging with the communities they serve.

Looking ahead, Roy Tatum, MP for Red Bay, will host another Community Trunk Sale at the Red Bay Constituency Office, 33 Marina Drive, on Saturday, June 20, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Residents are encouraged to come out, connect with neighbours, and give unused items a new purpose.

Have a safe and blessed weekend.

For Love of Country.

Seven years without an increase.
But with Cayman families already struggling, now is the wrong time for Government to stand by and let costs rise again.

🌀 Hurricane Season Starts Today

A little preparation today can make a big difference when a storm is approaching.

As we enter the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season, now is the time to take a few simple steps to protect your family, home, and community:

✅ Stock up on essential supplies and non-perishable items
✅ Review your home and property insurance coverage
✅ Prepare or update your emergency kit
✅ Make a family emergency plan and know your evacuation options

Being prepared isn't about fear—it's about peace of mind and resilience.

The People's Progressive Movement encourages all residents to take the time now to get ready before a storm is on the horizon. Early preparation helps families stay safe and reduces stress when severe weather threatens.

Let's work together to keep our communities prepared, informed, and resilient throughout the hurricane season.

PPM WEEKLY WRAP UP

This week has been a busy one for the PPM leadership team, marked by community engagement, representation, policy discussions, and planning for the future.

The week began with the 53rd Annual Commencement Ceremony of the International College of the Cayman Islands (ICCI), celebrating the achievements of 41 graduates. Representing the PPM were Hon. Pearlina McGaw-Lumsden, MP for George Town West, Mr. Roy Tatum, MP for Red Bay, and Deputy Leader Kenneth Bryan, who joined graduates, families, and faculty in recognizing this important milestone.

Members of the PPM also attended a reception hosted at Government House by Her Excellency Governor Jane Owen in honour of the 5th Commons and Overseas Territories Speakers’ Conference, providing an opportunity to engage with delegates and representatives from across the Commonwealth and Overseas Territories.

The Official Opposition then took part in its regular Wednesday appearance on For The Record. Deputy Leader Kenneth Bryan was joined by Hon. Pearlina McGaw-Lumsden and Roy Tatum to discuss progress on previous motions, key national issues, and several new people-centred motions set to be brought before Parliament in June.

Among the proposals discussed was a motion filed by Kenneth Bryan aimed at expanding eligibility for government financial assistance by increasing income thresholds to better reflect the rising cost of living facing Caymanian families.

Hon. Pearlina McGaw-Lumsden also highlighted her motion seeking to reserve opportunities within the real estate profession for Caymanians, with the goal of increasing access to employment and business opportunities for local people.

Meanwhile, Roy Tatum continued making an impact within the Red Bay community, supporting initiatives focused on improving opportunities for children and strengthening community partnerships. His efforts helped secure support toward additional playground equipment for Red Bay Primary School, demonstrating the value of collaboration and investment in Cayman’s future generations.

The team also attended the opening ceremony of the 5th Commons and Overseas Territories Speakers’ Conference, where current and former representatives gathered alongside regional and international delegates to participate in important discussions on governance, parliamentary cooperation, and representation.

It was a week filled with networking, representation, community engagement, and planning as the PPM continues its work on behalf of the people of the Cayman Islands.

Enjoy the weekend.
