On Friday, 25 September, Hon. Rolston Anglin, Minister for Education & Training, attended the Boyz 2 Men Induction Ceremony at Clifton Hunter High School.

The Minister delivered remarks encouraging students to remain positive, embrace leadership, and seek help and guidance throughout their journey. He also joined Hon. Michael Myles, Minister for Caymanian Employment & Immigration; Deputy Chief Officers for the Ministry of Education & Training, Mr. Elroy Bryan Watler and Mr. Jerome McCoy; and other special guests in the tie ceremony, where students officially received their Boyz 2 Men ties to commemorate their induction into the programme.

Established in 2009, Boyz 2 Men is a high-school-based mentorship initiative that provides boys with opportunities for life-skills development, academic support, cultural learning, community service, and leadership development.

The Ministry of Education and Training has published the Mobile Phone (Safe School) Policy, formalising its position on the use of personal mobile phones and other electronic devices in government schools.

Effective at the start of the 2026/2027 academic year, the policy applies to all government schools and establishes that students may not use personal mobile phones or other electronic devices capable of communication or connectivity during the school day, subject to the specific exceptions set out in the policy.

The Ministry of Education and Training’s Scholarship Secretariat wishes to advise that the scholarship portal will close on 30 September 2026 for annual maintenance.

Students planning to apply for funding for the Spring 2027 term are asked to wait until 1 November to create and submit their applications. Applications for Spring 2027 funding will be accepted and processed from 1 November 2026 to 28 February 2027.

The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) and the Department of Education Services (DES) urge parents and guardians to make sure children are prepared for wet conditions throughout this week (21-25 September). This includes ensuring children have raincoats and umbrellas for drop-off, pick-up, and transitions between classes.

Parents and guardians are also asked to arrange to safely collect their children from the bus stop when they return from school.

This follows a Flood Alert issued by the Cayman Islands National Weather Service (CINWS) for all three islands through Monday, 21 September and a forecast of heavier rainfall on Tuesday, 22 September.

MoET and DES will continue closely monitoring the situation in consultation with Hazard Management Cayman Islands (HMCI), and will share any further school-related updates through social media and direct communication if conditions change.

The Ministry of Education and Training was proud to participate in the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC) Career Fair today, Friday, 18 September, at the John Gray High School Gymnasium.

Acting Minister for Education & Training, the Hon. Nickolas DaCosta, JP, MP, delivered remarks encouraging students to take full advantage of the opportunities available at the Career Fair by connecting with as many organisations as possible. He highlighted that these conversations could lead to valuable internship opportunities or potential full-time employment.

The Career Fair was also attended by the Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism & Trade Development, Hon. Gary Rutty, and Deputy Governor, the Honourable Gloria McField-Nixon.

Students fully immersed themselves in the experience, engaging with organisations, learning about different career pathways and exploring opportunities for their future.

Thank you to our dedicated MoET staff for supporting and encouraging students throughout the event, and to all the organisations that participated and helped make the Career Fair a success.

Today, 14 September, Hon. Rolston Anglin, Minister for Education & Training, attended the John Gray High School Boyz 2 Men 2026/2027 Induction Service.

In his remarks, Minister Anglin encouraged the boys joining the programme to embrace the opportunities it provides, while expressing his appreciation to the programme organisers, mentors and participants for their continued commitment to supporting and empowering young men.

Minister also joined other special guests in the ceremonial placing of ties, marking the boys' official induction into the Boyz 2 Men programme.

📚 On 8 September, Minister for Education & Training, Hon. Rolston Anglin, along with team members from the Ministry of Education & Training and the Department of Education Services, visited various schools to engage with students as part of International Literacy Day.

During the visits, Minister Anglin and the team read with students and held discussions about the books and stories being explored. The visits highlighted the importance of literacy and reading as essential skills for learning and development.
