Attention Truck Drivers: Did you know, according to the Traffic Act (2026 Revision), it is illegal to use unmuffled engine compression brakes (also known as jake brakes) other than for emergency purposes?

These brakes create loud noise and cause disturbances to residential communities, and should not be necessary if driving safely and within speed limits with the road conditions in the Cayman Islands. Police will be cracking down on offenders, particularly in the Eastern Districts.

According to the Traffic Act, the penalty for violations is up to a fine of $2,500, or six months in prison.

We are asking all truck drivers to do your part in helping us to ensure the safety and peace of our communities.

The National Roads Authority (NRA) wishes to advise the public of the opening of the Edgewater Way connector to the CUC roundabout. The schematic below shows how to traverse onto the newly designed CUC roundabout from the Edgewater Way connector. Please pay careful attention to the directional arrows, the striping and the guidelines for the use of a roundabout to guide you.

The area around the roundabout remains an active worksite and motorists are reminded:

How to use a roundabout: -

• Give way to vehicles already in the roundabout (standard driving practices still apply)
• Proceed when it is clear to do so
• Pay attention to new markings and directional arrows
• Signal appropriately when exiting the roundabout

For construction zones: -

• Reduce speed in the construction zones and obey all the posted signs and signals
• Obey instruction given by flag persons
• Signal appropriately when changing lanes

The remaining works include kerbing, landscaping, and paving.
For the time being, please note this remains an active construction zone. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, adhere to the posted speed limit of 25 mph and remain alert for large trucks and heavy equipment.

As the works continues on to completion the NRA thanks the public for its patience and cooperation. Once completed, we are aiming to have better control of the traffic navigating that space.
