”Isn’t your job boring?”” We get that a lot. 😏

The ORCC coordinates every patrol, every rescue and every operation across Cayman’s waters — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The boats are cool. But this is where the real work happens.

A critical message from the Cayman Islands Coast Guard.

The Cayman Islands Coast Guard has recently seen and reviewed multiple videos circulating online depicting vessel operators deliberately leaving the helm control station while the vessel is in motion.
This behavior is profoundly reckless. It shows a complete disregard for the safety of the operator, passengers, and every other person sharing our waters.

Abandoning the helm while the engine is in gear eliminates your ability to react to sudden hazards, swimmers, divers, other vessels, or changing water conditions. It is a fatal error waiting to happen. It is not skill; it is negligence.

We draw immediate attention to the Merchant Shipping Act (2021 Revision). Under this legislation, it is a criminal offence to operate any vessel—including a Personal Watercraft (PWC)—recklessly or negligently, in a manner that endangers, or is likely to endanger, human life or cause serious damage to property.

The Cayman Islands Coast Guard URGENTLY URGES all marine operators to CEASE this highly dangerous practice immediately. This act of negligence will not be tolerated, and we will take necessary enforcement action.

We require full cooperation from the entire boating community to maintain the safety of Cayman’s waters.

Stay Alert. Stay in Control. Stay Safe.
