🌊⛵ ARE YOU PART OF THE MARINE TOURISM VALUE CHAIN? THIS OPPORTUNITY IS FOR YOU!

The Second Call for Proposals for Window 2 of the Regional MSME Matching Grants Programme is now open, offering grants ranging from USD $100,000 to USD $150,000 to eligible Value Chain Groups in the Blue Economy.

âś… A marina or boat maintenance service provider

Together, these businesses create a seamless visitor experience, generate income, and strengthen the marine tourism sector.

If your group operates in the marine tourism sector in Grenada, Saint Lucia, or Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, you may be eligible to apply for funding to expand operations, improve services, adopt new technologies, and build resilience.

Amid the challenges, Saint Lucia continues to report positive tourism figures for the year so far.

As of April 2026, we are pleased to report a 3.7% increase in year-to-date arrivals, indicating that Saint Lucia welcomed more visitors by April 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. It is also encouraging to note a stronger presence from both the Canadian and Caribbean markets.

While we celebrate this sustained interest in our country, we must remain optimistic given the current geopolitical climate, which can lead to unpredictable outcomes.

The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA) is participating in the ongoing Adaptation Investment Pitch and Matchmaking Event (27–28 May 2026) at the Finance Administrative Centre, Pointe Seraphine, Castries.

This important regional engagement brings together development partners, private sector stakeholders, and government agencies to advance financing for Saint Lucia’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) implementation.

The tourism sector, alongside education and infrastructure, has been highlighted as a key new pillar within the NAP process, underscoring its critical role in building climate resilience and supporting sustainable national development.

The Honourable John Paul Estephane, Minister in the Ministry of Tourism, was represented at the event, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening climate adaptation efforts within the tourism industry and advancing investment-ready projects that safeguard the sector’s future.

The SLTA continues to support this vital work as Saint Lucia positions itself to secure partnerships that will drive long-term resilience and sustainable growth for the destination.

PRESS RELEASE

2026 National Tourism Public Speaking Competition Finalists

Following an invigorating preliminary round, the finalists of the 2026 National Tourism Public Speaking Competition have been chosen. This year, twenty-five (25) students representing nine (9) schools entered the competition, signaling continued interest in the Ministry’s initiative aimed at raising awareness among youth and encouraging their active involvement as ambassadors in the island's Tourism Sector.

The preliminary round comprised twenty-five (25) video submissions, which included the first round of judging. Subsequently, ten (10) finalists were selected. These enthusiastic students represented St. Mary’s College Secondary School, Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School, St. Joseph's Convent, Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School, Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School and Castries Comprehensive Secondary School. They will compete at the National Public Speaking Competition on July 2, 2026, where the winner will earn the title of Junior Minister of Tourism.

In preparation for the finals and regional competition, the Department of Tourism scheduled an orientation and capacity building workshop for the finalists, along with their liaison teachers, on Friday, May 15. The sessions focused on key public speaking techniques, an overview of Saint Lucia’s tourism industry, and explored four specific topics that will underpin the final competition.

The Department extends appreciation to all participating students, principals and liaison teachers for their continued support and commitment to the competition over the years. The Department remains dedicated to ensuring that both the schools and participants are duly recognized for their contributions to its ongoing success.

The public is hereby invited to join the Facebook livestream of the competition on July 2, 2026, to support the students and witness the announcement of the 2026 Junior Minister of Tourism.

End.

The finalists of the National Tourism Public Speaking Competition spent the day at the Ministry of Tourism on Friday, May 15, where they listened to various speakers discuss tourism and public speaking.

The Orientation Workshop was organized to provide students and teachers with an important preparatory platform to equip our finalists with the knowledge, skills, and motivation needed to participate successfully in the Competition.

The Department extends best wishes to each finalist participating in the Tourism Public Speaking Competition, to be held on July 2, 2026, from 9 am to 12 pm, which will be carried live on NTN.
