The Department of Finance has successfully concluded the initial field mission for the World Bank-supported Saint Lucia Water and Wastewater Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project, marking an important milestone in the Government of Saint Lucia's efforts to modernize and strengthen the country's water and wastewater sector.

Over four days, the Department of Finance coordinated a series of high-level technical meetings, regulatory reviews, environmental and social consultations, and site visits involving the World Bank, the Water and Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO), the National Utilities Regulatory Commission (NURC), the Water Resources Management Agency (WRMA), and other key government stakeholders.

The mission concluded with an inter-ministerial wrap-up briefing and a post-mission planning session, during which participants reviewed initial findings, identified priority data requirements, and confirmed the next steps for the project's technical, financial, legal, and environmental assessments.

The PPP initiative seeks to identify innovative and sustainable solutions for improving the delivery of water and wastewater services through carefully structured private sector participation. The project will evaluate options to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen infrastructure investment, improve service quality, and build a more resilient water sector capable of meeting the country's long-term social, economic, and environmental needs.

With the successful completion of the field mission, the project now moves into its next phase, during which detailed technical analyses, stakeholder consultations, and feasibility assessments will be undertaken to inform future decisions on the modernization of Saint Lucia's water and wastewater services.
