Warrant Officer Class II (WO II / WO2) D.U.N. De Silva was a brave officer of the Sri Lanka Army Commando Regiment, remembered as one of its most capable snipers, a skilled paratrooper, and an experienced sniper team leader. His exceptional marksmanship, determination, and fearless spirit earned him the respect of his fellow commandos.
After studying at Prince of Wales' College as a cadet during 1984–1985, he joined the Sri Lanka Army and successfully completed the demanding Commando selection process. At the 1987 Commando Passing Out Parade, he was awarded the Silver Dagger as the Best Commando Officer of his intake, recognizing his outstanding performance, leadership, and military excellence. His advanced military training, including overseas exposure, further strengthened his ability to undertake complex and high-risk missions.
In 1994, while serving the country with unwavering loyalty and bravery, he lost his life in an LTTE attack. His sacrifice remains a lasting reminder of the courage and dedication shown by Sri Lanka's finest soldiers.
