As Sri Lankans, we truly respect the legal profession and the important role lawyers play in protecting justice.

There are many People’s Counsel who serve with fairness, compassion, and reasonable fees, standing with ordinary citizens in difficult times. They earn our deepest respect.

However, it is also a painful reality that some President’s Counsel charge fees far beyond the reach of the common person, often without transparency. This creates a feeling that justice is becoming a privilege, not a right.

This is not written with anger, but from the heart.

We humbly ask for more fairness, more accountability, and more humanity in the system. Justice should not depend on wealth—it should be accessible to every citizen of this country.

Let us protect the dignity of the legal profession by ensuring it remains reasonable, transparent, and close to the people.
