මහාකනදරාව වැව (Mahakanadarawa Wewa)
අනුරාධපුර යුගයේ ඉදිකළ ශ්රී ලංකාවේ ප්රකට පුරාණ ජලාශයකි.
එය ක්රි.පූ. පළමු සියවසේ පමණ රජ කළ වට්ටගාමිණි අභය (වළගම්බා) රජතුමාගේ සමයට අයත් බව ඉතිහාසයේ සඳහන් වේ.
උතුරු මධ්යම පළාතේ පිහිටි මෙම වැව වියළි කලාපයේ කෘෂිකර්මාන්තයට ජලය සැපයීමේ අරමුණින් ඉදිකර ඇති අතර, අදත් එය ප්රදේශයේ ගොවිතැනට හා ජෛව විවිධත්වයට වැදගත් සම්පතක් ලෙස පවතී.
වැව අවට ප්රදේශය ජල පක්ෂීන් සහ වනජීවීන් සඳහාද සුප්රසිද්ධ වන අතර, ශ්රී ලංකාවේ පුරාණ වාරි ඉංජිනේරු දක්ෂතාවයේ විශිෂ්ට සාක්ෂියක් ලෙස මහකනදරාව වැව සැලකේ.
Mahakanadarawa Wewa
A famous Sri Lankan temple built during the Anuradhapura period.
It is said to date back to the time of King Wattagamini Abhaya (Walagamba), who ruled for the first time in 1000 BC.
Located in the North Central Province, this temple was built to provide water for agriculture in the dry zone, and it remains an important resource for the farming and biodiversity of the area.
The area around the temple is also famous for its waterfowl and wildlife, and the Mahakanadarawa temple is considered a great testament to Sri Lanka's ancient irrigation engineering prowess.
