Our Salty’s Crew comes from all corners of the world and all walks of life, and each and every one of them add something special to the mix.

Meet Yanik, one of the co-founders and dreamers behind Salty Swamis. His passion and enthusiasm to develop contemporary surf culture in Sri Lanka runs deep. This drive can also be seen in his work at Salty’s, and his commitment to that work has helped make the business the success it is today.

Next to Saltys, Yanik is an avid environmental enthusiast and a talented photographer. He loves taking trips to the various wilderness spaces around Sri Lanka and capturing and documenting wildlife. His personal interests in the natural world has led to him pursuing professional endeavors through his work with the , an environmental organisation that Salty Swamis closely supports.

Yanik’s motivational and encouraging attitude is a testament to his character, and he is forever supporting the people around him to be the best versions of themselves. He loves Salty Swamis, he loves surf and he loves Sri Lanka, the country that he is so proud to call home.

In case you guys missed it, we are OPEN! Though this season won’t look anything as seen in this photo of our courtyard dining space, we will be maintaining the level of service, quality of food and all round sensory stimulation you have come to expect at Salty Swamis.

We truly miss all of you who would usually be here with us at this time of year, and hope to see your lovey faces sooner rather than later.

Sandika Thushara a.k.a 'Mambo'

Mambo’s name is almost ubiquitous with Hikkaduwa and the gentleman himself is nearing legendary status. From what began as a humble surf school and soon turned into a happening hangout for the young and restless, the man and the bar have surely paved the way for party and surf culture down south. Changing appearance and also location over the years, Mambo has learned on the job and rebuilt himself a successful, salubrious beach venue, with a restaurant and bar that focuses on sustainability at every level of operation. And there’s delicious food!

At Mambo’s, plastic bottles have been replaced by glass bottles and drinking water is free to refill. The beach is cleaned every day by his teams of surfers and as Mambo notes, also by the locals that own most of the properties in Hikkaduwa. It is their initiative of cleaning their own beaches, re-establishing a sense of ownership and shared value, that maintains the pristine beach scape of Hikkaduwa.

Mambo also spearheaded the launch of the Sri Lanka Surfing Federation, which has enabled our local surfers to represent Sri Lanka internationally in competitions both here and abroad. Mambo is one of the most intelligent, capable and strong community leaders we have in this country and WALK wish him every success on his journey.
