Buchanan, Grand Bassa County( June 12, 2026) Grand Bassa County took a significant step toward economic transformation on Friday as Superintendent Karyou Johnson joined senior government officials and stakeholders in Edina City for a landmark ceremony marking the identification of land for a major investment project proposed by Mark Group.

The initiative underscores the commitment of the people of Edina to development, economic growth, and sustainable job creation. The proposed investment is expected to establish a ship repair, ship recycling, and shipbuilding facility in the area, creating employment opportunities for more than 1,500 Liberians.

The ceremony brought together several high-ranking government officials, including Hon. Hadja Mamaka Bility, Minister of State Without Portfolio; Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo, Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency; Hon. Samuel F. Kpakio, Chairman of the Liberia Land Authority; Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., Commissioner General of the Liberia Maritime Authority; Hon. Roland Layfette Giddings, Minister of Public Works; Representative Isaac Bannie; and Hon. Jeff Blibo of the National Investment Commission.

Speaking during the event, Superintendent Johnson expressed appreciation to Mark Group for selecting Grand Bassa County, particularly Edina City, as the location for the proposed investment.

He noted that the project has the potential to transform the local economy by creating jobs, enhancing technical skills, and generating new business opportunities for residents of the county and Liberia at large.

The investment is expected to contribute significantly to the government's broader development agenda by promoting industrial growth, increasing economic activities, and strengthening Liberia's maritime and manufacturing sectors.

Residents and local leaders welcomed the initiative, describing it as a historic opportunity that could usher in a new era of prosperity for Edina and surrounding communities.

Friday's ceremony marked an important milestone in advancing discussions and preparations for what is anticipated to become one of the largest industrial investments in Grand Bassa County in recent years.
