National AIDS Commission and Partners hold two days validation meeting in Kakata, Margibi County.

The National AIDS Commission and Partners are currently holding a two day meeting in Kakata, Margibi County.

The two days gathering seeks to validate the National Strategic Plan III (NSP III) for the national HIV response from 2027-2032.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, the vice Chairperson at the NAC, Dr. Mohammed Swaray, welcomed all participants on behalf of the Chairperson Dr. Cecelia J. Nuta and thanked all Stakeholders for their participatory role from the onset of the development period.

Dr. Swaray also disclosed that the meeting is not just a validation but a technical review process that demonstrates collective efforts and commitment to building a stronger, inclusive, and sustained national HIV response for Liberia.

The NAC Vice Chair also describes the moment which the NSP III is being finalized as a critical time where the HIV response is already experiencing major drawdown on donor support, stressing the need for a robust approach in Mobilizing Domestic resource to address lifesaving interventions.

In addition, Dr. Swaray furthered that the NSP III when finalized, will be used to engage Policymakers and State actors to Prioritize Domestic resource to sustain the gains made within the national response.

In separate remarks, Partners representing FHI360, Plan Int, and UNAIDS expressed thanks and appreciation to the Commission for its oversight role within the national response and pleaded for a more collective effort as Liberia move to ending AIDS come 2030.
"This NSP is key and very significant, because as we end AIDS by 2030, there will be no other national document develop for the response. so, we have to make it more realistic and achievable " UNAIDS

"We are glad to have supported this process, and as we validate this Five year Strategic Plan, it's important we remain focused on achieving the global HIV targets and Liberia's national commitments toward ending AIDS as a Public health threat by 2030, including the triple 95 targets, reducing new HIV infections, and ensuring equitable access to quality HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support services for all population " Plan International

For his part, the Community Health Department Director (CHDD) Margibi County Health Team, A. McFarland Kerkulah lauded the NAC for the level of inclusiveness and pledged the county commitment in supporting the national response through this national instrument which serves as a tool for the implementation of the different HIV programs in Liberia..

The meeting brought together over fifty (50) participants including relevant MACS, CSOs, Implementing and development Partners, and Local government.

The National AIDS Commission on Tuesday
May 20, 2026 held its BI-ANNUAL Forum aimed at strengthening coordination and
and strategizing sustainable ways to
maintain the gains made within the national response.

The Forum which brought together different implementing Partners and Civil Society organizations sought to discuss achievements, challenges as well as sustainability plans ahead of the 2030 global targets .

Speaking at the opening of the one day meeting , the head of the Commission Dr. Cecelia J Nuta thanked the Partners for working closely with NAC since their inception and calls for more collaboration as Liberia strive to meet global target in ending AIDS as a Public health threat by come 2030.

As part of its strategy, a panel discussion design to dig deep into progress made by implementing partners as well as challenges and leason learned, NAC received several commendable remarks for her coordinating role within the national response. Though outlining several challenges, the Partners thanked the government of Liberia through the Commission for standing firm for those affected by HIV /AIDS in Liberia.

The meeting climaxed with an awards ceremony in honor of different Partners and CSOs for their level of support that has that has gotten the response at the level where it is now.

In words of appreciation, those awarded lauded NAC for noticing the stance in the fight against HIV and vowed their unwavering support .

'Now this is NAC, we can see that the government is owning the response and pray for more of what we see" one honoree said ..

In same approach, high ranking Officials from the National AIDS Commission headed by the Chairperson Dr. Cecelia J Nuta, has held separate Engagement meetings with the Ministry of Local government, the B**g County Health Team, and the administration of the Phebe Hospital.

In separate remarks. the NAC boss stressed the need of deepening the already existing relationship and assessing the quality of HIV services at different gol facilities in county.

For his part, Dr. Daanue Paye Zwuogbae CHO B**g County Health Team (BCHT) lauded NAC for such initiative. He also disclosed that there are several prospects admist the challenges but believes with the involvement of every sector, change is eminent. Dr. Zwuogbae however named some challenges confronting the county as well as HIV services across the county.." There are several challenges not only unique to this county but we can't sit and watch, we all know the drawdown now everywhere so we are making use of the government resource allocation as well as Mobilizing Domestic resources through local partners in county.."it's not an easy thing but we have to..sometimes we spend our own resources to get the work moving because of the passion we have and that's where we find ourselves". He said

Similarly, the Medical Director at Phebe Hospital, Dr.Minnie S. Ricks, welcome the team to the facility and described the visit as timely and farsighted especially in the wake of donor drawdown and fatigue.

She then led the team through the facility for sightseeing inclusive of the ART Clinic..

As part of the tour, the team also engaged the C.B.Dunbar Hospital in a quest of assessing the quality of HIV services at the facility and beyond. Again, the essence is to know the challenges, what has worked best, and how these gaps could be resolved.
