SIM STRONGLY QUESTIONS THE DECISION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LIBERIA UNDER DR. LAYLI MAPARYAN TO AGAIN ENTRUST MR. SEKOU W. KONNEH WITH ANOTHER LEADERSHIP POSITION AFTER YEARS OF ADMINISTRATIVE FAILURE, LEADING TO THE ABUSE OF POWER, OFFICE AND THE SYSTEMATIC UNDERMINING OF STUDENT DEMOCRACY AT THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS; IT ALSO QUESTIONS THE DECISION TO INVITE TO THE LAUNCH OF A DIVISION OF ATLETHIC AND SPORTS DISTRICT #11 REPRESENTATIVE IN MR. RICHARD NAGBE KOON WHO HAS SHOWN ZERO REGARD FOR THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LIBERIA!

The Mighty Student Integration Movement (SIM) of the University of Liberia would like to inform you all that the REPUTATION of University of Liberia, which nearly all students and members of the Liberian public thought would have improved a little bit under the watch of Dr. Layli Maparyan as its President, is yet SINKING administratively! Dr. Layli Maparyan is NOT ready to transform the University of Liberia!
The GOOD INTENT of the University of Liberia regarding the launching of a DIVISION of ATLETIC and SPORTS is now in JEOPARDY, as Dr. LAYLI MAPARYAN knowing fully well of the terrible things encircling MR. SEKOU W. KONNEH of recent in the space given him by the University and the students thereof, while serving as Dean of Student Affairs, has yet fallen prey to the OLD ORDER that has stagnated this revered institution of academe!
While SIM supports the promotion of athletics, sportsmanship, physical development, and positive student engagement on the campuses of the University of Liberia, SIM believes it is MORALLY irresponsible, administratively DANGEROUS, and institutionally CONTRADICTORY for the University Administration to place such a SENSITIVE division under the stewardship of an individual whose TENURE at the DIVISION of STUDENT AFFAIRS REMAINS one of the most CONTROVERSIAL and deeply CRITICIZED periods in RECENT student affairs HISTORY at the University of Liberia!
For years, students across the campuses of the University of Liberia consistently witnessed and raised concerns over the UNPROFESSIONAL, SELECTIVE, and POLITICALLY handling of STUDENT AFFAIRS matters under Mr. SEKOU W. KONNEH. During his REIGN as Vice President/Dean of STUDENT AFFAIRS, many students and student leaders who openly CRITICIZED the operations of the DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS reportedly FOUND themselves VICTIMIZED, MARGINALIZED, VERBALLY INSULTED, THREATENED, SUSPENDED and at will having their STUDENT INDENTIFICATION (ID #) numbers BLOCKED, and ACADEMIC processes FRUSTRATED for merely EXERCISING their DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS and FREEDOM OF EXPRESSIONS, all without the ounce of DUE PROCESS!
This is the same MR. SEKOU W. KONNEH which made the Office of STUDENT AFFAIRS accustomed to functioning as a CENTER of SELECTIVE JUSTICE and INSTITUTIONAL FAVORITISM, where CERTAIN students and campus-based POLITICAL GROUP enjoy UNUSUAL PROTECTION, POLITICAL PREFERENCE, and OPERATIONAL IMPUNITY over OTHER STUDENTS and STUDENTS POLITICAL GROUPS and ORGANIZATIONS at the UNIVERSITY of LIBERIA!
Under him, it was like a permit given for a DISTURBING pattern of CHAOS, CLASS DISRUPTIONS, CAMPUS DISTURBANCES, and ACTS of INTIMIDATION linked to ELEMENTS ASSOCIATED with the FAVORED POLITICAL GROUP (S) without ACCOUNTABILITY, while the DIVISION of STUDENT AFFAIRS repeatedly issued its INFAMOUS public RHETORIC that “THE MATTER IS UNDER THOROUGH INVESTIGATION AND ALL VIOLATORS WILL BE DEALT WITH ACCORDING TO THE REVISED STUDENT HANDBOOK,”!
JUSTICE that should be UPHELD was often NEUTRALIZED, COMPROMISED, or COMPLETELY BURIED behind closed door throughout the TIME of MR. SEKOU W. KONNEH as Vice President / Dean of the Division of Student Affairs!
SIM recalls with CONCERN the INCIDENT involving the PROPERTIES’ and the STAFF of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), where some STUDENTS of the UNIVERSITY of LIBERIA connected to the STUDENT UNIFICATION PARTY of the UNIVERSITY OF LIBERIA participated in ACTS of DESTRUCTION and DISORDERLY conduct, yet the DIVISION of STUDENT AFFAIRS under MR. KONNEH remained PUBLICLY SILENT! NO DECISIVE public ADMINISTRATIVE DISCIPLINARY ACTION was taken! NO TRANSPARENT REPORT was PRODUCED, and NO meaningful ACCOUNTABILITY process for the STUDENT POPULACE to see in respect of that incident to date!
The FUTURE of the UNIVERSITY of LIBERIA CANNOT be BUILT upon INSTITUTIONAL SILENCE, ADMINISTRATIVE IMPUNITY, and the CONTINUOUS RECYCLING of FAILED former officials! Regrettably and sadly, this is what Dr. Layli Maparyan is presently doing at the University of Liberia!
The University of Liberia student body has NOT forgotten that under MR. SEKOU W. KONNEH leadership at the DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS, the UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS of the University of Liberia were DENIED REAL DEMOCRATIC STUDENT ELECTION, even where it was possible!
It is THEREFORE DEEPLY CONCERNING that after such a DISPUTED and HEAVILY CRITICIZED LEGACY at STUDENT AFFAIRS, the UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION Headed by Dr. LAYLI MAPARYAN has ONCE again CHOSEN to ELEVATE this same INDIVIDUAL into another STRATEGIC leadership position, while IGNORING the record of his LACKSTER performance! Leadership MUST be based on COMPETENCE, ACCOUNTABILITY, INTEGRITY, and public CONFIDENCE, not POLITICAL CONVENIENCE, institutional RECYCLING, or PROTECTION NETWORKS!
It is an open secret that most officials at the University of Liberia, yea, the Republic of Liberia one way or the other, have LINKS with the various student political groups on the Campuses of the University of Liberia, BUT that does NOT in any way negate PROFESSIONALISM, INTEGRITY from Officials of such who are opportune to occupy public positions! Contrary to that, and here at the University of Liberia, the case of MR. SEKOU W. KONNEH, is NEGATIVELY WORST, as UNPROFESSIONALIM has become habitual for him!
And the Mighty Student Integration Movement (SIM) does NOT want to see, nor hear that students of the University of Libera MUST join SUP, or wear COLOR of SUP, in order to participate in activities relative to the new Division of Athletic and Sports!
Therefore, it UNEQUIVOCALLY CALLS on the University ADMINISTRATION, FACULTY, STUDENTS, CIVIL SOCIETY ACTORS, and all CONSCIOUS STAKEHOLDERS to CRITICALLY REFLECT on the LONG-TERM IMPLICATIONS of RECYCLING CONTROVERSIAL administrative ACTORS into new INSTITUTIONAL POSITIONS without TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY, or PERFORMANCE EVALUATION!
Fast forward, SIM frowns on the DECISION of Dr. Layli Maparyan of the University of Liberia to have given INVITATION to DISTRICT #11 REPRESENTATIVE in MR. RICHARD NAGBE KOON who has shown NO respect to the Office of the University of Liberia’s Presidency but is still lecturing at the University!
The VIOLENT and DISRUPTIVE act, which destroyed parts of the Office of the President of the University of Liberia carried out by SUP on September 1, 2025, is a glaring example!
MR. RICHARD NAGBE KOON in a dishonor manner pertaining such incident, personally called the President of the University of Liberia to the Office he occupied at the Capitol Building to meet the same SUP which he has long associated with, even after the said ugly act, instead of visiting the Campus to see for himself the VIOLENT act of SUP, and WITHOUT the second thought that he is one of the LECTURERS at the University of Liberia, and that position is greater than RANK!
However, the same RICHARD NAGBE KOON of DISTRICT #11 who could not come on the Campus to meet the President of the University of Liberia in September 2025, was seen few days freely perambulating this very Campus with the student group (SUP)! If that is not DISRESPCT to the University of Liberia authority then, what it is?
In addition to that, this is the same RICHARD NAGBE KOON who lied that he has RENOVATED the RESTROOMS of the University of Liberia, but the condition of the BATHROOMS on the FENDALL CAMPUS still compels many students to use the BUSHES to attend to nature’s calls, while many students on the Capitol Hill Campus yet use WALLS to attend to nature because of the same condition of the BATHROOMS! What does said individual has to say again to the students, if NOT poli-trick!
SIM REMAINS COMMITTED to the STRUGGLE for proper institutional INTEGRITY, ACCOUNTABILITY, TRANSPARENCY, FAIRNESS, and the PROTECTION of STUDENTS’ RIGHTS and DIGNITY at the University of Liberia!
