Date: March 25, 2025

Liberian People's Party Youth League condemns the unprofessional and lawless actions against peaceful MCSS students by the Liberia National Police; Calls on the government of Liberia to launch an immediate and impartial investigation into this matter.

Fellow Liberians and member of press; the ordinary and dejected mass of our people; sons and daughters of the bitter balls and coals sellers; Pen-pen and Tricycle Riders; Miners and farmers in the hinterlands;

Ladies and gentlemen

The Liberian People's Party Youth League vehemently condemns the unprofessional and lawless actions perpetrated by the Liberia National Police against peaceful students of the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS). The recent incident, which saw students exercising their constitutional right to peaceful assembly met with excessive force, is not just an affront to the values of democracy and freedom of expression, but also a dangerous precedent for the treatment of youth voices in our nation.

We stand with the students and their families, as we recognize that education is not only a privilege but a fundamental right that must be protected. The actions of the police, characterized by their disregard for the rule of law and the sanctity of peaceful protest, have not only disrupted the educational process but have also instilled fear within our youth, who are the future leaders of our nation.

It is with this backdrop that we call upon the Government of Liberia to launch an immediate and impartial investigation into this matter. Accountability and transparency are not mere ideals; they are necessary components of good governance and the foundation upon which our democracy rests. Those responsible for the violent suppression of peaceful student expression must be held accountable for their actions, and we expect swift and decisive action to reinforce the government’s commitment to upholding human rights.

Furthermore, we urge the government to engage in open dialogue with student representatives and relevant stakeholders. Creating a constructive space for discussion will help in addressing the legitimate concerns of our youth, fostering a culture of respect, understanding, and collaboration between the authorities and the student body.

We call upon all peace-loving Liberians, community leaders, and civil society organizations to join us in advocating for the rights of students, ensuring that such violations do not go unchallenged. It is imperative that we collectively work towards a society where the voices of youth are heard and respected.

In unity, we stand firm against injustice and pledge our commitment to a future where every citizen, especially our young people, can advocate for their rights without fear of reprisal.

We call on the media to exercise their role as watchdogs in this crucial time. Your reporting and investigation can help shine a light on these critical issues and ensure that the truth is brought to the surface.

Together, let us strive for a Liberia where peace, justice, and respect for human rights prevail.

Signed: The secretariat, LPP Youth League

Subject: Response to Critique on Gongloe’s Alleged Undermining of Anti-Corruption Efforts

Dear Verity online news,

We appreciate your concerns regarding the article accusing Cllr. Gongloe of undermining the anti-corruption fight in Liberia. However, we believe it is important to clarify several points that have been brought up in your article.

Association vs. Promotion of Corruption: The assertion that mere association with individuals accused of corruption translates to promoting corrupt practices is misleading, baseless and loosely spewed out without careful consideration. In a legal framework, individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Therefore, unless there are formal charges or investigations against Representative Bility, it is unjust to claim that Cllr. Gongloe is promoting corruption simply by accepting a symbolic gift or recognition. Such actions can be viewed as part of community engagement rather than complicity in corrupt practices.
Acceptance of Gifts and Community Support: The acceptance of a gift, especially one that symbolizes community contributions, should not automatically be construed as an endorsement of an individual's character or actions. The context of these interactions is crucial. As the question whether the public should believe that Martin Kollie is corrupt because it is speculated that he blackmails? This is what caused him to display his houses. But how did he get those houses? Some believe that he built those houses out of corruption. Should the public believe those allegations?
Martin Kollie should bring evidence that he is prepared to testified to in court and pressure the government that he promotes to prosecute Bility and not to engage in rumor- mongering. All through his article he wrote the word allegation. How can allegations be proof? Or has he turned out to be a mercenary writer against the person who freed him many times from jail even up to escape from Liberia? Some pay good by being thankful as Bility did for the free legal services Cllr. Gongloe gave in the 1990s when he was poor and some people like Martin pay good with evil.

Cllr. Gongloe’s recognition of contributions to the community should not be conflicted with an endorsement of any alleged wrongdoing by the individuals involved.
Inequity in Addressing Corruption: It is concerning that while Cllr. Gongloe is being scrutinized for his associations, the government has yet to take substantive action against individuals found guilty of corruption or accusations related to such. It is essential to maintain consistency in addressing corrupt practices across the board, regardless of individuals' political affiliations.
Assumptions about Corruption: While it is imperative for Cllr. Gongloe to be cautious about his associations, it is equally essential to understand that the absence of a formal prosecution does not inherently tarnish his reputation or his fight against corruption. The principle of fair treatment should apply equally.
Promotion of Anti-Corruption Initiatives: Cllr. Gongloe’s dialogue with a range of community members, even those without a clean slate, can serve as an opportunity for dialogue and reformation. Limiting engagement to only those on the ‘approved’ list can hinder progress and alienate potential allies in the fight against corruption.

In summary, while the fight against corruption necessitates vigilance and careful association, it is imperative that we do not rush to condemn individuals based solely on association without a basis in proven misconduct. Accountability should be universal, and scrutiny must be applied consistently to all actors in the political landscape. We see this as a mere organized propaganda against the venerated character of counsellor Gongloe. Let those who are bent on spewing such feeble gibberish desist immediately or face the wrath of the ordinary people.

Reducing Exposure to Diseases: A Path Forward for Liberia through the LPP's Youth League Prescription on Food Production

During his confirmation hearing, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. brought attention to the pressing issue of diseases that are affecting populations globally, including Liberia. These diseases, often linked to malnutrition, poor food security, and environmental factors, disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. For Liberia, a nation still rebuilding after decades of civil unrest, the path to better health begins with sustainable food production.

The Liberia People’s Party (LPP) offers a comprehensive prescription for the country’s future, aiming to address these health challenges through agricultural reforms that span all 15 counties.

The Link Between Poor Food Security and Public Health

Many diseases, including those mentioned by Kennedy, are linked to poor nutrition, which in turn stems from inadequate access to healthy food. Poor agricultural practices, environmental degradation, and lack of proper food storage and distribution mechanisms leave many Liberians vulnerable to malnutrition, waterborne diseases, and other public health crises. By improving food production and distribution systems, Liberia can reduce the exposure of its citizens to these health risks.

The LPP’s Youth League Prescription for Food Production in Liberia’s 15 Counties

The LPP Youth League proposes several key strategies to revamp Liberia’s food production systems:

1. Decentralizing Food Production: Liberia’s food production should not be concentrated in urban areas. The LPP Youth League advocates for empowering farmers in rural regions, encouraging local production in each of the 15 counties. By focusing on regional food systems, Liberia can ensure that all citizens, regardless of location, have access to fresh and nutritious food.

2. Promoting Sustainable Agricultural Practices: The LPP Youth League emphasizes the need for environmentally sustainable agricultural practices that protect soil health and water resources. These methods will ensure long-term food security and reduce the risk of foodborne diseases linked to poor farming practices.

3. Improving Access to Quality Seeds and Fertilizers: Access to high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and modern farming techniques is crucial for improving agricultural yields. The LPP Youth League providing subsidies and training to farmers, particularly in rural areas, so they can increase their production of nutritious crops.

4. Investing in Local Markets and Food Storage: Strengthening local markets and improving food storage capabilities are vital components of the LPP’s strategy. These measures will ensure that food is not only produced locally but is also stored and distributed efficiently, reducing the risk of spoilage and contamination.

5. Educational Campaigns on Nutrition and Health: Alongside increasing food production, the LPP Youth League stresses the importance of educating Liberians on the nutritional value of local foods. These educational campaigns can help prevent the spread of diseases linked to poor diets and poor food handling practices.

Conclusion

By implementing these prescriptions on food production, Liberia has the potential to significantly reduce the diseases highlighted by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in his hearing. By focusing on sustainable agricultural practices, decentralizing food production, improving market access, and investing in education and training, the LPP can help safeguard the health and well-being of Liberians across the 15 counties. In doing so, the country will not only address immediate public health concerns but also build a foundation for long-term prosperity and resilience.
