EMC concludes participation in its first NMCP Annual Review Meeting (December 2–6).

As the NMCP Annual Review Meeting, held from December 2–6 in Ganta, comes to a close, the Liberia End Malaria Council (EMC) is proud to have participated for the first time and to reaffirm our commitment to supporting Liberia’s malaria elimination agenda.

Delivering remarks on behalf of Chairperson Ms. Sara E. Buchanan, Consultant Varwo Gbassie emphasized EMC’s mandate since its launch in April 2025—providing technical support, mobilizing resources, and strengthening partnerships that enhance the national malaria response.

This week offered valuable insights into progress, challenges, and opportunities for deeper collaboration as partners align toward a harmonized 2026 work plan. The EMC remains committed to working closely with NMCP and all stakeholders to drive impact and advance a malaria-free Liberia.

The Liberia End Malaria Council and the National Malaria Control Program held a strategic working session today to review program data, identify implementation and funding gaps, and align on forward-looking actions to accelerate malaria elimination efforts.

The discussion focused on strengthening coordination, improving evidence generation for resource mobilization, and enhancing operational efficiency across partners. As always, our shared objective remains clear: deliver a more resilient, better-resourced malaria response for Liberia.

Collaboration like this is essential if we intend to drive sustainable impact and move the country decisively toward a malaria-free future.

Today, Liberia marked a major milestone in its ongoing fight against malaria with the official launch of the End Malaria Council Liberia at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Oldest Congo during the commemoration of World Malaria Day 2025 under the theme: “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite.”

The establishment of the End Malaria Council Liberia is a significant step forward in mobilizing political will, resources, and multi-sectoral leadership to drive the country closer to its goal of eliminating malaria. The Council brings together leaders from government, the private sector, civil society, youth organizations, and international partners to support the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and the Ministry of Health in scaling up efforts against one of Liberia’s deadliest diseases.

As World Malaria Day reminds us each year, malaria is preventable, treatable, and ultimately, beatable. The establishment of the End Malaria Council Liberia brings hope that the vision of a malaria-free Liberia will become a reality — not someday, but within this generation.
