On May 19, 2026, the Embassy of Germany in Liberia welcomed students of Notre Dame University-Liberia for an engaging and insightful courtesy visit focused on diplomacy, international relations, and the longstanding bilateral relationship between Liberia and Germany.

During the interactive session, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Jakob Haselhuber shared valuable experiences from his diplomatic journey, highlighting the importance of education, perseverance, mentorship, patriotism, and cultural understanding in diplomacy. The Ambassador also provided students with a historical overview of Liberia-Germany relations dating back to 1855 and discussed Germany’s continued cooperation and development support to Liberia.

The meeting further featured an engaging question-and-answer session where students discussed diplomacy, international cooperation, regional politics, visa processes, and the challenges faced by diplomats. The Embassy appreciates the students and faculty of Notre Dame University-Liberia for the visit and for the meaningful exchange of ideas.

Heads of Mission of Team Europe begin a three-day mission to Western Liberia, starting in Tiene Town in Grand Cape Mount County. Here, the EU, in partnership with UN Women Liberia, supported the construction of the Tienii Vocational and Heritage Center for women traditional leaders.

During the visit, Miatta, a beneficiary of the Spotlight Initiative, shared her experience: “I learned tie and dye through the project. Today, I am able to take care of myself and my children.”

Grand Cape Mount County Superintendent Foley J. Kiatamba and Assistant Minister of Local Government William Jallah, graced the occasion.

On April 8, 2026, H. E. Ambassador Dr. Jakob Haselhuber participated in the launch of the 2025 Global Hunger Index, co-hosted by Welthungerhilfe Liberia, Concern Worldwide, and the Ministry of Agriculture at Monrovia City Hall. The event, held under the themes “20 Years of Tracking Progress: Time to Recommit to Zero Hunger” and “Liberia’s Pathway to Rice Sovereignty, Food Security and Nutrition Gains,” brought together government officials, diplomats, and development partners, including Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, who shared insights on scaling rice production.

Ambassador Haselhuber expressed excitement about contributing to discussions on the program’s themes and engaging with fellow diplomats and development partners. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, sustainable solutions, and strong partnerships in addressing hunger and malnutrition while encouraging continued cooperation to achieve lasting progress.

DAAD’s In-Country/In-Region Programme has recently published new Calls for Scholarship Applications starting in spring 2027.

Scholarships will be awarded for newly selected Master’s programmes at selected institutions in Nigeria and South Africa in the fields of Natural Sciences and Social Sciences.

The application deadline for all programmes is 29 April 2026.

Further calls for programmes in further fields and at other newly selected institutions will follow in autumn 2026!

During the application phase, DAAD’s regional office in Accra will offer two information sessions in which all details regarding the scholarship programme and the application process will be explained! Further information and access details can be found in the calls for applications.
