Updating the humanitarian situation in North-west Syria
Thousands of Syrian families in the region are facing the beginning of winter amid poverty and destitution, amid expectations that temperatures will drop dramatically during the coming period. Many displaced families are living in tents and unfinished and equipped buildings, and they are unable to provide the simplest means of warmth.
This year, hundreds of thousands of civilians are wintering in camps after they were forced to flee military operations in northwest Syria.
The current camps for the internally displaced suffer from overcrowding, while finding shelter in the existing houses is limited, and even finding a place in an unfinished building has become almost impossible, as the number of camps in northwestern Syria has increased significantly during the previous period, bringing the number of camps to 1,633 A camp inhabited by 1,811,578 people, including 514 random camps, inhabited by 311,782 people.
The vast majority of the displaced are women and children who, along with other internally displaced persons, remain in dire need of basic assistance and protection. The main needs include food, shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene and access to education, and there is an urgent need at the present time to improve the structure of the shelter, at a time when the humanitarian situation is constantly deteriorating and many people have been forced to flee several times, leaving behind their possessions in light of the limited places to be They can stay there.
There are a large number of displaced children who do not go to school. Schools either do not have the ability to host additional students, or children are forced to work to secure additional resources for families in the region, especially with poverty levels in the region reaching record levels exceeding 87.34 % and a daily rise in food prices, which exceeded 150 % in recent months.
