MFA has declared that Agrowa's soon to launch Mriehel STAC (Standard Template Agricultural Construct) will be Malta first truly urban farm (i.e existing within the city and not just in a greenhouse). We are already in discussions with key stakeholders to build a sister facility in Gozo.
Agrowa's STAC facility is meant to be an easy to replicate, scalable concept facility which combines food production using vertical hydroponics (saving space, water and labour), education facilities for workshops and student training, and a lab space for testing of Malta-based and developed new agriculture technologies.
MFA has committed to showcasing both our research and education programs, and generally highlighting the need for facilities such as Agrowa's initial STAC due to Malta's food security issues of importing 80% of its food, and lacking the land or fresh water to support its own food security needs.
