just another project to invite more cars that will actually increase traffic

can’t wait to see stand still traffic on these new roads that they spend many years and millions $$$ to make

the never ending viscous cycle

to turn the cycle around, we need alternative modes of transport (public transport/micromobility infrastructure) to reduce the cars on the road

it’s not rocket science, and the people making these decisions are either corrupt or incompetent.. making projects that continue to negatively impact your mental health, increase sound and air pollution, separate your communities

all from your own taxpayer money

The construction of the Msida Creek Project will commence in November and end in 2027, Infrastructure Malta CEO Steve Ellul said

Cruise liners are an external factor but are NOT the cause. The cause is the cars (surprise surprise). Thousands of people using a car to enter the capital city because in many cases it is still more convenient than taking the bus. There is terrible traffic around Valletta, Floriana, Msida, Marsa, Qormi etc.. every single day.

We need a reliable public transport system that will reduce the number of car trips and cars on the road.

If it isn’t obvious.

If it isn’t obvious.

Streets are complex. But its basic math is remarkably simple! This bus carries more people than the cars.

“Great. But having spent €700m getting people to drive, and promising €35m for a National bicycle network. We are now offering a paltry €10m to local councils, that residents can veto? Call me a skeptic, and it's great the minister acknowledges the need to reduce cars. But it needs political will and determination, on a national scale. Not delegation and relegation by localities”

The cause of the traffic is NOT overpopulation! The cause is 440,000 vehicles on the island (and many unnecessary roads accommodating the cars).

There are cities with more than 5 TIMES the population density of Malta, but they have a mixed transport system that includes: walking 🚶🏻, driving 🚘, cycling 🚲 , busses 🚍, trains 🚝 and trams 🚋. So, their residents have

- children independence
- communal spaces
- walkable streets
- freedom to choose their mode of transport
- consistent trip duration
- nature
- thriving businesses (customers from allover arriving with public transport etc)
- and more....

And Malta? Simply because of its terrible 💩💩 urban planning, the population is dependent on using a car and is one of the most worried/stressed populations in the world.

How many more opinion posts like this do we need to see before any change of attitude? We need to get outside and protest for good Public Transport and Micromobility infrastructure.

It's sad because it doesn't need to be this way. Simple changes will completely change Malta and our love for it will come back. But unfortunately the government is not doing its part. Instead, its spending €700 million on car infrastructure

These are victims, killed by bad urban planning in Malta. With a shared mobility system that includes cars, public transport and walking infrastructure, these deaths like all other motor accidents could've been avoided. When will they get justice?

The accident took place at 1.45 pm on Triq L-Isqof Scicluna, Qormi
