**VERS UN NOUVEAU PARTENARIAT AU SERVICE DE LA COMMUNAUTÉ**

Le Président du Conseil de District de Rivière Noire, **M. Kemraz Ortoo**, a eu le plaisir d’accueillir, ce mardi 14 juillet 2026, le Président ainsi que les représentants des **Lions Clubs d’Albion, de Cascavelle et de Rivière Noire**, dans le cadre d’une rencontre de travail visant à renforcer la collaboration entre les deux institutions au bénéfice de la population du district.

Les échanges ont porté sur plusieurs axes de coopération, notamment :

✅ la lutte contre la pauvreté ;
✅ la prévention contre la drogue et l’organisation de campagnes de sensibilisation ;
✅ les activités sportives, culturelles et musicales ;
✅ les campagnes de santé publique ;
✅ les programmes d’alphabétisation ;
✅ les activités destinées aux personnes âgées ;
✅ les campagnes de nettoyage et de protection de l’environnement.

Parmi les projets envisagés figure également la création d’un **Centre Multimédia dans le district de Rivière Noire**, avec le soutien de différents partenaires et parties prenantes.

Cette rencontre marque le début d’une nouvelle dynamique de collaboration sous la présidence de M. Kemraz Ortoo, dont la vision est résolument axée sur le bien-être, l’inclusion et l’épanouissement de la population du district.

Le Président a souligné que les défis auxquels notre société est confrontée doivent être abordés dès le niveau communautaire, grâce à une mobilisation collective et à des partenariats solides, afin de bâtir un avenir meilleur pour tous.

M. Kemraz Ortoo a remercié les membres et représentants des Lions Clubs pour leur engagement, leur disponibilité et leur volonté de travailler en étroite collaboration avec les autorités locales. **TOWARDS A NEW PARTNERSHIP IN SERVICE OF THE COMMUNITY**

The Chairperson of the District Council of Black River, **Mr Kemraz Ortoo**, had the pleasure of welcoming, on Tuesday 14 July 2026, the President and representatives of the **Lions Clubs of Albion, Cascavelle and Black River** for a working meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two institutions for the benefit of the district’s population.

Discussions focused on several areas of cooperation, including:

✅ poverty alleviation;
✅ drug prevention and awareness campaigns;
✅ sports, cultural and musical activities;
✅ public health campaigns;
✅ literacy programmes;
✅ activities for senior citizens;
✅ cleaning campaigns and environmental protection initiatives.

Among the projects being considered is the establishment of a **Multimedia Centre in the Black River District**, with the support of various partners and stakeholders.

This meeting marks the beginning of a new dynamic of collaboration under the chairmanship of Mr Kemraz Ortoo, whose vision is firmly focused on the well-being, inclusion and fulfilment of the district’s population.

The Chairperson emphasised that the challenges facing society must be addressed at community level through collective mobilisation and strong partnerships in order to build a better future for all.

**District Council Leads Multi-Agency Meeting on St Martin Pig Farm Situation**

**St Martin, Black River** – The Chairperson of the District Council of Black River, **Mr. Kemraz Ortoo**, convened a multi-agency meeting today to address the situation at the pig farm located in St Martin and to coordinate immediate actions aimed at improving environmental and public health conditions in the area.

The meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security, pig farmers, the Ministry of Housing and Lands, the Police de l'Environnement, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and other key stakeholders.

Addressing those present, Mr. Ortoo emphasized the importance of collective responsibility and close collaboration among all parties to ensure that the issues affecting the site are addressed without delay.

He called on all stakeholders to work together to undertake a comprehensive clean-up of the vicinity, including the collection and proper disposal of all accumulated waste, as well as the cleaning and clearing of drains to improve sanitation and reduce potential environmental and public health risks.

The Chairperson stressed that coordinated action between government agencies, the farming community, and other relevant partners is essential to safeguard the well-being of nearby residents while ensuring that farming activities are carried out in an environmentally responsible manner.

**Chebel Cave- A National Treasure
**Chebel, Black River** – The Chairperson of the District Council of Black River, **Mr. Kemraz Ortoo**, today led a site visit to the cave located at Chebel, bringing together representatives of Medine Ltd, the Ministry of Environment, the Forestry Services, the Ministry of Housing and Lands, the Tourism Authority, the Council's Public Health Department, and Councillors Tabanie and Magdeleine.

The visit aimed to assess the site's condition and discuss measures for its long-term preservation, rehabilitation, and enhancement.

Addressing the stakeholders, Mr. Ortoo described the Chebel Cave as a **national treasure** of immense natural and heritage value that must be protected for the benefit of present and future generations.

"This cave is a unique part of our national heritage and must be preserved at any cost," he stated. "It is our collective responsibility to ensure that this exceptional site is protected and enhanced while respecting its environmental and historical significance."

The Chairperson called upon all stakeholders to work collaboratively in developing and implementing a comprehensive plan for the embellishment, rehabilitation, and sustainable management of the area. He stressed that a coordinated approach involving both public and private sector partners would be essential to conserve the site and promote its ecological and tourism potential.

Representatives from the various organisations reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the initiative and agreed on the importance of close inter-agency collaboration to safeguard one of Black River's most remarkable natural landmarks.

🎯🏆 **Inter-Village Pétanque Tournament 2026 Officially Opened!** 🏆🎯

The **Inter-Village Pétanque Tournament 2026** was officially declared open today by the Chairperson of the District Council of Black River, Mr Kemraz Ortoo, in the presence of participants, supporters and members of the community.

In his welcoming address, Mr Ortoo warmly thanked all players, residents and supporters for their presence and enthusiasm. He highlighted the importance of sport in strengthening community ties, promoting healthy lifestyles and fostering friendship among the villages of the district.

Prior to the commencement of the competition, the **drawing of lots** was conducted to determine the fixtures, ensuring a fair and transparent start to the tournament.

Mr Ortoo officially declared the tournament open and extended his best wishes to all participating teams, expressing his hope that the event would unfold in a spirit of sportsmanship, respect and unity, and that everything would proceed smoothly throughout the day.

SPORTS DAY AT FLIC EN FLAC GOVERNMENT SCHOOL

The Vice-Chairperson of the District Council of Black River, Mrs Inassee Sharon, had the honour of being invited to the Sports Day of Flic en Flac Government School on Friday, 26 June 2026, where she presented medals to pupils in recognition of their performances, efforts and participation throughout the event.

The event brought together students and teachers in a celebration of teamwork, discipline and healthy competition. Mrs Sharon congratulated all participants for their dedication and encouraged the young athletes to continue embracing the values of perseverance, respect and fair play both on and off the field.

The District Council of Black River remains committed to supporting educational and sporting initiatives that contribute to the holistic development of our youth and foster a strong sense of community spirit.
