Aikido Seminar
合気道セミナー

On the 4th of September 2026, Mr. KAN Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Mauritius attended the seminar of the Aikido Ryu Mauritius. This ceremony was held at the gymnasium of Paillote in the presence of the Honourable Ally Houssain ABDULKHADER, Mayor of Vacoas/ Phoenix and Sports, and the Master TOYODA Stephen Kentaro “Tatsuo”, president of Aikido Association International (AAI), Aikido Association of America (AAA), and also of the Japanese Culture Centre (JCC) in Chicago, USA.
The seminar was the occasion of demonstrations of aikido by the President of the Aikido Ryu Mauritius, Nemraz JUGGOO and Master TOYODA. During his stay in Mauritius, Master TOYODA also supervised the black belt grading exams.
In his remarks, Ambassador KAN commended the federation for promoting a Japanese martial art that has for founding principles: harmony, self-control, and solving conflicts peacefully.
The Mayor of Vacoas/Phoenix and Sports, Ally Houssain ABDULKHADER expressed in his speech, his satisfaction of having an increase of enthusiasm for sports and martial arts in the town of Vacoas and Phoenix.
Master TOYODA expressed his gratitude for the Ambassador’s attendance, and he spoke about the consolidation of the Aikido federations around the world and expressed his wish to continue to support Aikido in Mauritius.

2026年9月4日、菅大使は、Pailloteの体育館にて合気道流モーリシャスのセミナーに出席しました。このセミナーには、ヴァコア・フェニックス市長兼スポーツ担当のアブドゥルカデル氏、国際合気道協会（AAI）・全米合気道協会（AAA）・日本文化センター（JCC）会長の豊田師範が出席し、合気道流モーリシャス代表と豊田師範による演武や、黒帯昇段審査も行われました。

挨拶の中で菅大使は、同団体が、調和、自制、そして平和的な紛争解決を基本理念とする日本発祥の武道である合気道の普及・振興に取り組んでいることを称賛しました。ヴァコア・フェニックス市長は、同市でスポーツや武道に対する関心・熱意が高まっていることを大変嬉しく思うと述べました。また、豊田師範はスピーチの中で、菅大使の参加に感謝の意を表するとともに、世界各地の合気道団体との結束を強め、モーリシャスにおける合気道の発展を今後も支援していきたいと述べました。

Attendance to the Blood Donation and Drug Awareness Campaign
献血および薬物乱用防止キャンペーンへの出席

On 6th September 2026, Mr. KAN Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Mauritius, attended the “Blood Donation and Drug Awareness Campaign”, jointly organized by the Humanitarian Education and Liberation Project(HELP),the Blood Donors Association, and the Shotokan Martial Art Federation(SMAF).The campaign highlighted the importance of building a healthier and safer society through drug abuse prevention awareness, blood donation, and Shotokan Karate.

In his remarks, Ambassador Kan emphasized that drug awareness to protect the healthy future of young people, blood donation to help save lives, and karate, which fosters discipline, patience, respect and self-control, all share a common spirit of “people caring for people.” He also highlighted the importance of cooperation in building a better future for local communities.

Through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project(GGP) in FY2023,Japan provided a vehicle to HELP to support the organization’s activities.

２０２６年９月６日、菅大使は、人道・教育・解放プロジェクト（HELP）、献血者協会及び松濤館空手連盟（SMAF）が共催する「献血および薬物乱用防止キャンペーン」に出席しました。キャンペーンでは、薬物乱用防止の啓発、献血、松濤館空手を通じて、健康で安全な社会づくりの大切さが呼びかけられました。

挨拶の中で菅大使は、若者の健全な未来を守るための薬物啓発、命を救う献血、規律・忍耐・尊敬・自己制御を育む空手は、いずれも「人が人を思いやる」活動であると述べ、地域社会のより良い未来に向けた協力の重要性を強調しました。

令和5年度の草の根・人間の安全保障無償資金協力において、人道・教育・解放プロジェクト（HELP）には、同団体の活動を支援するため、車両１台を供与しました。

Reception for the participants of visit to Japan under the project ”Plastic Circular Economy Knowledge Exchange for Japan–Mauritius Business Collaboration”
「日本・モーリシャス間ビジネス連携のためのプラスチック循環経済に関するナレッジエクスチェンジ」における訪日プログラム参加者を招待したレセプションの開催

On 26th August, Ambassador Kan held a reception at Ambassador’s residence inviting the representatives of the Government of Mauritius and business sector who visited Japan from 6th to 10th July under the project entitled “Plastic Circular Economy Knowledge Exchange for Japan–Mauritius Business Collaboration”. This project is implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) with a funding from the Government of Japan. During their stay, the delegation visited Japanese government agencies and Japanese companies involved in the circular economy for plastics and called on Japanese investors and companies attending the business seminar to transfer technology to Mauritius, invest and engage in business partnerships. At the reception, there was a lively exchange of views on topics such as the challenges involved in realizing a circular economy for plastics in Mauritius and the outcomes of the visit to Japan.
In November, representatives from Japanese companies interested in business opportunities in Mauritius are scheduled to visit Mauritius.

８月２６日、菅大使は、「日本・モーリシャス間ビジネス連携のためのプラスチック循環経済に関するナレッジエクスチェンジ」を通じて７月６日から１０日にかけて訪日したモーリシャス政府およびビジネス関係者等を大使公邸に招き、レセプションを開催しました。本プロジェクトは、日本政府が国際連合工業開発機関(UNIDO)に資金を拠出し実施しているものです。日本滞在中、参加者はプラスチックの循環経済に関わる日本政府関係機関や日本企業を訪問したほか、ビジネスセミナーに参加した日本の投資家・企業に向けてモーリシャスへの技術移転、投資、ビジネス連携を呼びかけました。レセプションにおいては、モーリシャスにおけるプラスチック循環経済実現のための課題や訪日プログラムの成果など、活発な意見交換が行われました。
１１月には、モーリシャスでの事業機会に関心を有する日本企業関係者がモーリシャスを訪問予定です。

Launch of the Japan Traditional Karate Mauritius association
日本伝統空手（JTK）モーリシャスの発足式

On 22nd of August 2026, Mr. KAN Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Mauritius, attended the launching event of the Japan Traditional Karate (JTK) Mauritius. This ceremony was held at the Voila hotel in Bagatelle in the presence of the Honourable Deven Nagalingum, Minister of Youth and Sports and Honourable Tony Apollon, Junior Minister of Youth and Sports.
In his remarks, Ambassador KAN welcomed the establishment of Japan Traditional Karate in Mauritius. He commended the team of martial artists which worked hard for the setting up of the association in Mauritius. Ambassador Kan also shared the value of Karate as contributing to promote values such as discipline, respect, perseverance, dedication, and self-control.
In his speech, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Deven Nagalingum noted a rising interest of youth and parents for martial arts. He wished to confirm the supportive interest of the Prime Minister, Navin Ramgoolam for the youth and he asked the public to help him build a good nation for the future generations.
The Chairperson of the JTK Mauritius, Mr. Jimmy Chung Tick Kan, made a short speech and proceeded to the launch of the association. Messages from Yuko Takahashi, Chairperson, and Masahiko Tanaka, Supreme Master, of Japan Traditional Karate Association (JTK) were also read during the event.

2026年8月22日、菅大使は、バガテルのVoila Hotelにて日本伝統空手（JTK）モーリシャス支部の発足式に出席しました。この式典にはナガリンガム青少年・スポーツ大臣およびアポロン同副大臣が出席しました。
挨拶の中で菅大使は、モーリシャスにおける日本伝統空手支部の設立と、同設立に尽力した武道家たちを称えました。また、空手は、単に武道の技の鍛錬と言うだけではなく、規律、敬意、忍耐、献身、自己管理等の価値感を人生を通じて育んでくれるものですと述べました。ナガリンガム青少年・スポーツ大臣は、若者及びその保護者の武道への関心の高まりについて述べた他、ラングーラム首相が若者への支援に関心を持っていることについて延べ、将来の世代のためのより良い国づくりに向けた国民の協力を呼びかけました。
JTKモーリシャスのチョン・ティック・カン会長が発足の挨拶を行い、高橋JTK協会会長および田中・同協会最高師範からのメッセージも披露されました。

RENDEZ-VOUS COSPLAY

On 8 August, the Embassy of Japan took part in the Rendez-vous Cosplay event, organized by Fredwolf Cosplay at Grand-Baie La Croisette.
Visitors were invited to discover various aspects of Japanese culture through an origami workshop, cultural publications, and demonstration of traditional ‘Chanoyu’, the Japanese tea ceremony.
During the origami workshop, many children cheerfully joined the Embassy Staff in folding paper cranes, Pikachu, Hello Kitty, and other popular figures. The activity attracted enthusiastic participation and provided a fun and engaging introduction to Japanese culture.

日本文化紹介イベント（RENDEZ-VOUS COSPLAY）への参加

8月8日、グラン・ベ・ラ・クロワゼットで開催された、Fredwolf Cosplay主催の「Rendez-vous Cosplay」に参加しました。
大使館ブースでは、折り紙ワークショップや日本文化を紹介する冊子の配布、そして日本の伝統的な茶道の精神に触れられる抹茶のデモンストレーションを行い、多くの来場者の皆さんに日本文化を楽しんでいただきました。
折り紙ワークショップでは、子どもたちが大使館スタッフと一緒に鶴やピカチュウ、ハローキティなどを折りながら、楽しそうな笑顔を見せてくれました。会場は終始賑わい、日本文化に親しんでいただく素敵な機会となりました。

Attendance to the Inauguration Ceremony of Community Playgrounds
屋外児童遊具の寄贈式典への出席

On 6 August 2026, Mr. KAN Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Mauritius, attended the inauguration ceremony of the Mahebourg Waterfront and Residence La Chaux children's playgrounds, organized by the District Council of Grand Port and MOL Mauritius Ltd.
The event was attended by Dr the Hon. Arvin Boolell, Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, the Hon. Dhananjay Ramful, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, the Hon. Ranjiv Woochit, Minister of Local Government, cabinet ministers as well as representatives from local authorities and the community.
Ambassador Kan welcomed MOL’s continued contribution to Mauritian communities and sustainable development. He expressed his delight at seeing children enthusiastically enjoying the newly donated playgrounds, noting that their smiles and laughter demonstrated the value of creating safe and inclusive spaces for children and families. He also reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to further strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Japan and Mauritius.

The ceremony also featured Japanese and local cuisine prepared with fresh local ingredients, providing an excellent opportunity for participants to deepen their friendships and exchanges.

8月6日、菅正広大使は、グラン・ポール地区評議会（District Council of Grand Port）および商船三井（MOL）が主催したマエブール・ウォーターフロントおよびレジデンス・ラ・ショーの屋外児童遊具の引渡式に出席しました。
式典には、ラムフル外務・地域統合・国際貿易大臣、ブレル農産業・食料安全保障・ブルーエコノミー・漁業大臣、ウーチト地方自治体大臣等の閣僚をはじめ、地元政府関係者や多くの地域住民らが参加しました。
菅大使は、商船三井（MOL）チャリタブルトラストによるモーリシャスの地域社会への継続的な貢献と、持続可能な発展に向けた取組を高く評価しました。また、寄贈された遊具で多くの子供たちが笑顔で元気に遊ぶ姿に喜びを表し、こうした安全で親しみやすい遊び場が子供たちの健やかな成長や地域コミュニティの絆を深める上で重要な役割を果たすことを強調しました。さらに、日本とモーリシャスの友好・協力関係を今後とも一層強化していくと述べました。
また式典では、地元の新鮮な食材を用いて作られた日本料理や地元の料理が振舞われ、参加者との親睦を深める良い機会となりました。

THE KMAF TRAINING UNDER SENSEI MURAYAMA TSUTOMU, 4TH DAN
村山先生によるKMAF稽古

On 26th of July, 2026, Mr. KAN Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Mauritius, attended a special training session conducted by Sensei MURAYAMA Tsutomu, a 4th Dan instructor of the World Karate Organization (WKO), for members of the Kyokushinkai Martial Arts Federation (KMAF). The training was held at the Pandit Sahadeo Sports complex in Vacoas.
In his remarks, Ambassador KAN encouraged KMAF members to take full advantage of this unique opportunity to learn from the visiting Japanese karate master. Ambassador KAN also shared how karate training during his university days, contributed to his personal development, in terms of discipline and character.
Sensei MURAYAMA Tsutomu, a former world champion and the current Branch Chief of the Kyoto South Branch, also supervised the advanced grading examinations for KMAF members during his visit this week.

2026年7月26日、菅大使は、世界空手道連盟（WKO）四段の村山努師範を迎え、極真会館武道連盟（KMAF）会員を対象とした総合鍛錬に出席しました。本稽古は、ヴァコアのパンディット・サハデオ・スポーツ・コンプレックスで開催されました。
挨拶の中で菅大使は、KMAF会員に対し、日本から来訪した空手師範から直接指導を受けられる貴重な機会を最大限に活用するよう激励しました。また、自身も大学時代に空手を学んだ経験に触れ、その稽古が規律や人格形成に大きく役立ったことを紹介しました。
元世界チャンピオンであり、現在は新極真会京都南支部の支部長を務める村山師範は、滞在中にKMAF会員を対象とした昇段審査も行う予定です。

Courtesy Call on Minister of Tourism
デュヴァル観光大臣への表敬訪問

On 9 July, Ambassador Kan paid a courtesy call on the Honorable Christian Harold Richard Duval, Minister of Tourism. During the meeting, they exchanged views on future cooperation to promote tourism between Japan and Mauritius, and agreed to work closely together toward expanding tourism exchanges between the two countries.

７月９日、菅大使は、クリスチャン・ハロルド・リチャード・デュヴァル観光大臣を表敬訪問しました。日本とモーリシャス間の観光促進に向けた今後の協力について意見交換を行い、両国間の観光交流の拡大に向けて積極的に連携していくことで一致しました。

Awarding of the Head of Mission’s Commendation
在外公館長表彰

On June 26, Ambassador Kan presented Ambassador’s Commendation to Ms. Jean-Louis Midori, who has served for many years in the Consular and Security Section of the Embassy of Japan in Mauritius and has continued to hold memorial services for Japanese victims of an airplane accident off the coast of Mauritius.
Ms. Midori has been laying flowers at the memorial monument every November since the 13th anniversary of the tragedy, in memory of the 47 Japanese nationals who lost their lives in the crash of South African Airways Flight 295 on November 28, 1987. Her dedication began when she supported bereaved families who traveled from Japan to Mauritius for a memorial service, which inspired her with the desire to "offer prayers on behalf of those who are unable to make the long journey to Mauritius."
Furthermore, Ms. Midori has long been engaged in the tourism industry in Mauritius, contributing to the promotion of people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
At the commendation ceremony, Ambassador Kan expressed his deep respect and sincere gratitude for Ms. Midori's many years of dedicated activities and invaluable contributions.

6月26日、菅大使は、長年にわたり在モーリシャス日本国大使館領事・警備班で勤務し、また、モーリシャス沖における飛行機事故で犠牲になられた日本人の慰霊活動を続けてきたジャンルイ・みどり氏に対し、在外公館長表彰を授与しました。
同氏は、1987年11月28日に発生した南アフリカ航空295便墜落事故により犠牲となられた47名の日本人を追悼するため、日本からご遺族が慰霊に訪れた際の支援を契機に、「遠く離れたモーリシャスまで訪れることがかなわない方々に代わって祈りを捧げたい」との思いから、13回忌以降、毎年11月に慰霊碑への献花を続けてこられました。
さらに、同氏は当地で長く観光業に従事され、両国の人々の交流促進にも貢献されました。
表彰式では、同氏の長年にわたる献身的な活動と多大なる貢献に対し、菅大使から深い敬意と感謝の意が表されました。
