While Mangochi is widely known as a Yao heartland, with Yao being the predominant ethnic group in most of the district, T/A Nankumba stands out because it is also home to a significant Chewa, or Nyanja community.

In Nankumba area you’ll hear both Yao and Chichewa spoken, and Chichewa is widely used there.

The mix reflects Mangochi’s history of different groups settling along Lake Malawi, so even in a district famous for Yao culture and traditions, Nankumba keeps strong Chewa presence and customs alongside them.

M'modzi mwa alimi , a Biston Mtonga, ati akupha makwacha ndi ulimi wa nthochi, potsatila mbewu zomwe anapatsidwa zaka zitatu zapitazo.

"A KUSAMALA anandipatsa mbuto zitatu. Pano ndili ndi mipata yopitilira 200, ndipo ikumandipatsa ndalama zoposa two hundred thousand ndikakolora," atelo a Mtonga.

*STATEMENT BY DISTRICT COMMISSIONER ON 100% PHYSICAL COMPLETION OF GESD 4.0 PROJECTS ✅*

I am pleased to announce that all 5 recent projects under GESD 4.0 we were constructing here in Mangochi have now reached physical completion, ahead of the June 30 payments deadline.

*The projects include:*
1. *Ntonda CDSS Staff Houses, T/A Nankumba*
2. *Mtimabii Market Shed, T/A Chilipa*
3. *Maldeco Market Shed, T/A Mponda*
4. *Mpale School Block, T/A Chimwala*
5. *Chilawi Junior School Block and Teachers’ Houses, T/A Namabvi*

Special recognition for Chilawi and Mpale projects — both are now complete with only minor finishings underway.

We beat the deadline despite being pressed for time. Thank God.

Sincerest appreciation to everyone who supported these efforts, including our dedicated VDC members. Special thanks to the Chilawi VDC Chairperson for the early morning _Phala la Mpunga_ that kept us going while supervising the project the other night.

We now transition to *GESD 2.0: A Clean District*, and together we can.

Science Laboratory in completion phase at Katole CDSS, Traditional Authority Nankumba.

Constructed by Mangochi District Council, through GESD, the facility will provide students hands-on experience in science subjects, improve practical learning, and help boost their academic performance.
