🌊 NEPAL–TIBET FLOOD DISASTER — LATEST UPDATE | AUGUST 29, 2026

The catastrophic flash floods that struck the Nepal–China border on August 26 have become a major humanitarian disaster.

💔 At least 676 people have been confirmed dead — 669 in Nepal and 7 in Tibet — while nearly 3,000 people remain missing, according to the latest reports.

🚁 More than 3,700 people have been rescued in Nepal, but search operations remain extremely difficult because roads, bridges and communications were destroyed. More than 100 people are also reported trapped in a hydropower tunnel.

⚠️ Authorities are continuing to monitor unstable lakes and the risk of additional flooding. One lake formed after the glacier collapse has begun draining, reducing the immediate risk, although another larger lake remains under observation.

💰 Nepal estimates reconstruction could cost $4–5 billion, with major damage to roads, bridges, villages and hydropower infrastructure.

🌊 NEPAL–TIBET BORDER FLOOD — UPDATED AUGUST 27, 2026

A catastrophic flash flood swept through Rasuwa, Nepal, and areas near the Tibet border on August 26 after a massive ice-and-rock collapse triggered a powerful surge of water, mud and debris.

💔 At least 165 bodies have been recovered in Nepal, while hundreds remain unaccounted for. Nepal’s Tourism Board currently reports 579 tourists missing, including 466 foreign nationals.

🚁 Search-and-rescue operations continue, with 123 people rescued by helicopter so far. Roads, bridges, homes and hydropower infrastructure have suffered major damage, making access extremely difficult.

A catastrophic flash flood struck northern Nepal near the Tibet border on August 26, 2026, after an ice-and-rock avalanche triggered a sudden surge into the Bhote Koshi River.

The flood swept through communities in Rasuwa and neighboring districts, destroying homes, roads, bridges and hydropower infrastructure.
