The world is becoming increasingly polarised and right-wing, ultra-conservative populists are on the rise. But why is this happening, despite the rising cost of living, stagnating wages, the shrinking middle class, unaffordable housing and existential threats such as the climate crisis – events and phenomena that should be bringing people together?
