FROM AUGUST 17 TO AUGUST 30 — FILIPINOS ARE STILL FACING FLOODS. WHERE IS THE URGENCY?
For days, Filipino families have been dealing with floodwaters, evacuations, damaged homes, disrupted livelihoods, and the fear of what the next rainfall will bring. On August 17, severe flooding had already affected large parts of the country, with millions of Filipinos impacted by extreme rainfall and thousands seeking shelter. (Vietnam+ (VietnamPlus))
Yet while ordinary Filipinos are struggling to protect their homes, their children, and their livelihoods, we continue to see images of leaders attending celebrations and enjoying grand occasions.
Is this what leadership looks like while the people are suffering?
This is not about asking our leaders to stop living their lives. It is about priorities, sensitivity, and urgency.
When people are knee-deep in floodwater, when families are being evacuated, when roads are impassable and communities are crying for help, our leaders should be visibly focused on rescue, relief, disaster response, and long-term flood prevention.
Filipinos do not need leaders who only appear when the cameras are ready.
They need leaders who are present when the people need them most.
Billions have been allocated for flood-control efforts, yet flooding remains a recurring nightmare for millions. That should demand answers—not excuses. (Philstar.com)
And to those in power:
Do not forget who you are supposed to serve.
The Filipino people are not asking for luxury.
They are asking for safety.
They are asking for action.
They are asking for accountability.
Because while some can party above the floodwaters, ordinary Filipinos are fighting to survive beneath them.
🇵🇭 The people deserve better. The country deserves leadership that feels the pain of its people—and acts.
